Hi all, not been on for a while. Forgotten what date I had my last cig, about beginning of February and up to date still not had one.

Have used my e cig now and again. Was at a party last night and someone said "you haven't given up smoking because the nicotine in that thing is 18 ml. So I am now quite disheartened to think that although I haven't smoked a cig I am not nicotine free

Hi Wrighty500, it's lovely to meet you.

I had to write to you because Sinfree had exactly the same feelings herself this week after someone had made similar comments to her, which had also undermined her achievement and it makes me so mad!

First of all, you have not smoked a cigarette for 2 months - that is a fantastic achievement and should be celebrated and applauded and I know that deep down you MUST feel happy about that (I certainly would be!)

Nicotine is addictive, but it is not harmful to the body if used correctly - it would not be good to inject it into your arm, but other than that it is not harmful.

Using an e-cig is NOT the same as smoking cigarettes, but it is brilliant at helping to quit the HABIT of smoking cigarettes and that is why we use them.

If you were using patches, or gum or lozenges, nobody would say to that you have not stopped smoking.

If smoking was as harmless as an e-cig, none of us would have stopped smoking, that's a fact, apart from maybe the expense and the stink of it of course.

One of my best friends stopped smoking about 10 years ago and she was using the gum. She was still using the gum 18 months later and she readily admitted she was addicted to it at the time, but didn't care because she was very happy that she had stopped smoking and nobody accused her of still being a smoker even though she still used gum!

So please don't be disheartened by those comments, be proud of your achievement and continue to use your e-cig as long as you need to - we all know that we will give up the e-cigs eventually, but do it at your own time and when you are ready

An congratulations on stopping smoking for 2 months!

xx

Hi Wrighty, Dont be too upset over the ecig , its stopped all the toxins going into your body. Like Pete says you can cut down on the nicotine gradually. Nicotine isnt the killer substance. Take care. :)

It really makes my blood boil when people who don't know any better say such hurtful things to people they clearly do not see how their behaviours affect others, you ignore these comments as all have said you have stopped smoking and for 2 months up to now, what an amazing achievement, yes you are using an e cig well I am off the patches but still using gum doesn't make me a smoker nor you, keep your chin up you should be very proud of yourself we all are x x keep it going x x
