Advice for pelvic pain please!!

I'm a 29 year old female who has been suffering with issues with my bladder for around 5 years. I've not had any children and never been pregnant.

5 years ago I started getting re- occuring UTI's quite regularly and was referred to a urologist. I, then, started to get bladder incontinence- I was sent for an ultrasound on my pelvic area and kidneys which all came back clear. The incontinence was partly due to the fact I was having bowel issues meaning I was constipated one week and had diarrhea the next- I'm currently under Gastro for this and been diagnosed with IBS. The constipation was a trigger towards the bladder incontinence so I was put on movicol for a few months but it then started affecting my IBS so I came off this.

I was referred for a camera in my bladder which showed my bladder was very inflamed and 'bruised'- since this I've been told I had chronic cystitis and have been having bladder instillations since 2021 until last November 2023.

My other symptoms have been getting up several times at night for a wee, pelvic pain, heavy periods, bladder incontinence, and frequent need to go to the toilet.

I see a different urologist every time I get an appointment who gives me different advice and now I've been diagnosed with suspected 'chronic cystitis' I feel as though I've been left. I'm currently on 50 mg Mirabegron a day.

Since stopping the bladder installations in November 2023 I've just been left to it. At the end of Jan this year I had another UTI which I was given antibiotics for. A few weeks later (Middle of feb) I started having very severe pelvic pain and pain in my back (left kidney area) - I went to my doctors who did blood tests for everything and sent a water sample to the lab. All came back clear but they gave me a 3 day course of antibiotics as a precaution. The antibiotics helped the pain in my back but not my pelvic pain. This got worse quite quickly and I ended up in A&E however again all my test results came back clear. At A&E the pain got so severe that I ended up fainting after being given oral morphine.

Again, A&E gave me another 3 day course of antibiotics which dulled the pain a little but as soon as I finished the course the pain in my pelvis kicked back in with a vengeance. I'm currently living on painkillers and buscopan and i'm at a loss with what is causing the pain and what to do next. I feel totally alone and wish I knew what was causing my pain and how to deal with it.

it is reasonable to assume that you have developed adhesions in your bladder, also affecting your bowel and causing pelvic pain. Adhesions are the internal scars that form to help us heal from infection, inflammation, and surgery. Adhesions are not generally detectable as they can often form in the interim mural areas of organs – actually, with between cells within the walls of an organ.

Adhesions can be sometimes treated surgically, but it is a delicate situation in the pelvis, because more adhesions tend to form to help the body recover from the surgery to destroy them.

we actually have a clinic that specializes in decreasing adhesions in North London. I am not trying to solicit your business; I am trying to give you some insights.

if you like, you can complete a medical history form at our website: clearpassage.com. we will be glad to review your history and advise you whether we feel our work may help. At the same time, we may offer other suggestions for you.

I hope this helps. I am so sorry you are going through this, especially at your young age.

Hi DisneyLover1994

I think your issues could be caused by a UTI that has not been treated properly. The three day course of antibiotics is simply not enough and many women have been left in agony for years.

Testing and treatment for UTI's is outdated. It is very common for urine tests to come back negative for infection even when you have all the symptoms of infection. If we were treated correctly on the first UTI with a 2-3 week course of antibiotics the likelihood is the infection would not come back.

There is a group on Facebook that maybe able to help to you. There are many women on there who have the same problem and are being treated for an embedded UTI with a longer course of antibiotics.

Please search for Embedded/Chronic UTI support group. You'll find lot's of information and guidance on where to start in getting the right treatment.

Good luck 😊

I’m so sorry to hear that you’re experiencing this, and I don’t want to say I understand, but I do understand feeling alone in your health issues. I feel the same. I haven’t gone through the same as you to now experience pelvic pain, but I have gone through chronic, recurring UTIs and was told this was interstitial cystitis. This then impacted my pelvic floor muscles and later on, the muscles near the opening of the vagina. I am still dealing with pain to this day and it has significantly impacted my relationship with my partner and my self-confidence. I have no advice but just wanted to say that I hear you in your frustration and hopelessness. I am always happy to speak to others who are experiencing such horrendous pelvic pain issues and similarly, at such a young age (I’m 27). Sending so much hope your way.
