Advice on adhesions and options for pelvic pain

Hi Everyone, Had a tough few months following a full hysterectomy on 15th December 2020. Aged 45years diagnosed with benign myoma and adenomyosis. At the two week recovery mark I was met with extreme severe pain like electric stabbing on right hand side. I have been told its faecal impaction and also caused 3 UTIs in succession. An MRI is clear for the spine and no spinal nerves trapped. CT scan shows impaction and blood still getting to bowel which is all positive. However the pain will not dissipate. It is on the scale of 9-10 constantly and is unrelenting. My bladder tugs when I go for wee, and the bowels are only moving with 3 enema's a day and 10 Senna tablets with lactulose. I am having another xray tomorrow night and see the gastroenterologist after. I am on morphine oramorph and sectec when needed with sleeping tablets. I feel it is adhesions and or damaged nerve in the bowel causing the issue. It is frustrating getting the GP to listen and I am going to push consultant tomorrow. A lap cutting the adhesion's and or nerve testing of the bowel is needed. I have even looked into Osteopathic visceral massage and have a call in for them to discuss. Is there anything else out there I can do. Already attempting yoga exercises for constipation. Any advice is much appreciated. I already know opiates are not good for constipation however I cannot take tramadol or codeine.

I'm so sorry I haven't got any answers but wanted to say reading your post was like reading what's happening to me (even the Adenomysosis) my gp has prescribed gabapentin- I know its only a sticking plaster- but it seems alot better than oramorph. At the moment I'm practically attached to a heatpad, I take epsom salts baths and do castor oil packs. Laying on your left side is better. I also have spells of liquid food only ( low fodmap/ no wheat/ gluten/ dairy etc etc) i did test positive for sibo - many with adeno or endo or just post op can get sibo. Sibo is very painful but its more of a 'symptom' of something else ( like constipation/ adhesions) This is all the stuff I'm doing / found out.

Thank you for your reply. I will certainly discuss gabapentin , I have been on duloxetine for 10 years for low back pain and bladder damage from a car accident. Not sure how the two would interact. The epsom bath salts is good idea I will try that. We are lucky to have a hot tub at home and the consultant gave the go ahead to use and it does help I have to turn the jets to low though. Awaiting results from stool sample test from last week. I also use Lidocaine patches and my trusty TENS machine. Let me know how you get on too it sounds like we are quite similar in symptom's.

A CAUTIONARY Tale!!!After 13 surgeries (gynea) I am left with adhesions on Bowel, bladder, pelvis and abdomen. I have a severe non functional Bowel and bladder incontinence.

Had numerous adhesions separation surgeries not realising that surgery can cause more adhesions!!

If I knew then what I know now I would have been more cautious on getting the surgeries.

Reliant on daily trans-anal irrigation and strong meds for pain. You could explore a non Invasive treatment such as physio and Visceral abdominal massage, it helps release some of the pressure and spasms. My specialist womens physio is great along with botox into pubirectalis muscles.

Hope you find a treatment that works for you its just finding the right combination of meds/physio. Wishing you good health.

Thankyou. I have acupuncture and visceral massage booked in Friday with my osteopath. Have been exploring non invasive options. It sounds like you have been to hell and back and have resulted in difficult situation. I certainly don’t want the bowel or bladder to be worse than it is the now. Caution heeded. I send you huge hugs 🤗 for your daily trauma.

I am so sorry you are having all these problems. For your constipation- try psyllium capsules or powder which you put in water or juice. I use the capsules. Your goal is to get the stool to be soft formed so it moves easily through the intestines. Not too loose to cause diarrhea. Take 2, then add as needed. I usually take 3 at midday and at the evening meal. Occasionally I also have to take at breakfast. We are all different so you can figure what works for you. This is much easier on your system than laxatives. Use a generic. I had a GI doc and a pelvic PT tell me this before I tried it and it worked well.

Hi everyone update here on Tuesday last week my consultant saw a distended section in my bowel. He advised us to go to a and e first thing. We did I was admitted to pre surgery unit and another X-ray and scan completed. The surgeon said not serious enough for operation so discharged. Still in allot of pain, had to take bowel prep today and have a colonoscopy being done in the afternoon tomorrow. Feeling just weak and not me when will it all get better??
