PID abcess laposcopy adhesiolysis

In November I had severe pelvic pain and back pain and I went to my GP where they said they suspected I had kidney stones. That evening the pain was so severe my Husband called 999 who told him to take me to A&E.

There again I was sent home shortly after saying I was fine, and they booked me in for a follow up in 2 days time.

2 days had passed and the pain wasn't improving with codeine. On being admitted to hospital I could barely walk with out support I had a tempreture. I was then admitted to hospital for 4 days and diagnosed with PID and put on IV antibiotics. I was given a scan which showed an infection but all tests came back negative for STD's so they were a bit confused.

I was sent home with x2 antibiotics for 5 days which weren't enough and on discontinuing my systems started to come back. Again another call to the GP for more antibiotics, this time 14 days worth and a scan to follow up to check it had been cleared.

The scan appointment never arrived then 5 weeks later symptoms started to come back I spoke to 2 health professionals who brushed it under the carpet as pelvic pain but I new something wasn't right.

Reluctantly they gave me another course of antibiotics which I took straight away. I felt ignored poorly angry and scared. Why hadn't I had a scan I had looked up complications of PID and no one was listening. So I decided to go private my gynaecologist saw me quickily and I felt listened too. I had a thorough physical exam, something which was never done in hospital and referred to see one of their consultants for a scan which showed a huge abcess, on my ovary. In the meantime i was given x3 different antibiotics, and referred for a laposcopy.

In total this time i have been on x3 antibiotics for 46 days. I have further follow appointments and I am crossing my fingers it never returns.

Why are so many women being given such a short course of antibiotics. Why are follow up scans not being offered in time surely my storey shows that this could have all been avoided. You can get PID even with no STD. Pelvic pain is never normal and I believe the NICE guidelines need changing thousands, maybe more women are being treated multiple times due to not having a long enough course of antibiotics.

Why do we have to fight do hard when it comes to pelvic pain.

I am recovering slowly from my operation but the antibiotics have really done a number on my tummy although completely necessary. No suffering with a little post illness anxiety.

Has anyone been through similar.

I'm in a similar position, I hate how womens' health is ignored and brushed under carpet until its unbearable or you have to fork out for private care. I'm considering going private but worried about the costs 😪

My consultations and scans have been really reasonable. I agree the gender pain gap is very relevant.
