Pelvic pain management : Hi I have an... - Pelvic Pain Suppo...
Pelvic pain management
I'm sad to hear that you have had bad experiences with your doctors so far. I have been lucky enough to be treated at UCLH in London. If that's where you are going, you should get caring & sympathetic medics. They are specialists in pelvic pain & can investigate & offer all sorts of treatments. If one thing doesn't work they will try another. My post is about my personal experience at UCLH but I would expect it to be similar elsewhere. The number of visits depends on whether you have an investigation & the type of treatment. For example, if you need a special MRI, that requires a visit & another to discuss the results. A course of treatment could be a drug (tablets), so not many visits if it works - reviews can be done by a specialist pain nurse over the phone. Other types of pain treatment could be an injection or infusion, which would be tried & if it works it could be repeated if necessary, maybe quarterly. Again, you would have a follow up phone review with the nurse to avoid unnecessary visits.
The specialist nurses are experts in pain relief & a review with them saves you traveling & is by no means a second best option. You will get an appointment for a consultant doctor if needed.
I can give you practical information about the visit if it's UCLH, if you want. As for the treatments - the doctors & nurses are very good at explaining what they are, your options, pros & cons. It's best to hear it from them.
I think this is a really good opportunity for you. Try to approach your appointment with hope & a smile, rather than trepidation.
I've been to one was examined by a consultant gynaecologist who referred me to pain management who gave me two injections steroid and something else can't recall near pudendal nerve. Unfortunately it didn't work. The pain clinic said they didn't have a surgeon so now I'm researching Nantes in France to go privately
Hi thank you for reply but I am sorry that alls did not work out for you plus you are still having to look further afield much further bless just to get something that will work for you and your pain
I'm glad I have received different replies with regards to pain management clinics and I have a better understanding what might work for some may not for others I am not by no means thinking its all going to be fine probably due to the lack of understanding and support by various medical professions I have been visiting for year's
Thank you I wish you all the best luck in the world
Hi - I have a similar appointment in about 10 days. My surgeon from the original operation for bowel cancer does not recommend another operation. I will let you know how I get on and look forward to your feedback. 🤞
As with Granny sit less I have been on the UCL pain management course and agree with her but please remember the UCL aim is too help you manage your pain rather than cure it. We are all different so it is worth trying a few things they have on offer and hopefully you may get a reduction in your symptoms. It is no fun having pudendal neuralgia and I totally sympathise with you.
