Hi tjcaw,

Unfortunately the COVID pandemic put all surgeries except emergency surgery on hold. There was the agreement that when surgery restarted cancer patients would be dealt with first as unfortunately some of them would find that their cancer had progressed over the lockdown. It’s very difficult to give a time frame as it is dependent on how many cancer patients were left needing surgery before the lockdown, where you were on the surgical list. Many hospitals are using private hospitals for routine surgery which is what you would come under where you surgeon/consultant performs the surgery using their theatres. You could try and give your hospital a phone call but you might find that you are given a very vague answer as if we go into a second wave routine surgery again might be put on hold. Usually it’s the gynae schedulers who deal with theatre lists for gynae surgery. The gynae secretary or the outpatient clinic should have their phone number. You might need to give it several attempts to get through to them as I’m sure they are being bombarded with calls from patients and also consultants who might need to move a patient to the top of the list if their symptoms warrant it. I know this isn’t the answer you want, but to catch COVID after surgery would be extremely serious. So the hospital and your consultant will want to be absolutely sure it’s safe for you. On the plus side you might actually end the call with a date for surgery. If this is the case you might be told to self isolate from everyone so no shopping or leaving the home for the time they state. I know some hospitals are doing this and some private hospitals are insisting this is done for NHS patients using their facilities. I hope this helps.
