i have been diagnosed with fibroid and doctor put me on waiting list for hysteroscopy. My symptoms are getting worse now. Last month my periods was 25 days long then i had 2 weeks off then again stared periods and not stopping. I actually have heavy bleeding than usual.

At first, doctor prescribed me mefenamic acid but it doesn’t work then prescribed me tranexamix acid and it doesn’t work as well and now prescribed me Norethisterone 5 mg thrice a day to stop the bleeding.

But this mini pill is not working properly because i still have dark brown discharge.

Doctor always said that it’s normal and just wait for it to go away but I’m literally fedup now because unable to survive more!

No idea whats going on with me. Really drained now and need some help n guidance

Greeting! I, too, was diagnosed with uterine fibroids after going to the emergency room for horrible abdominal pain. Prior to going to the emergency room, I had really heavy bleeding every month, but my periods lasted about 6 days. The emergency room doctor told me to follow up with both my ob/gyn and my primary care physician, which I did. My ob/gyn prescribed mefenamic acid to me as well, but I didn't notice much of a difference from using it. We also discussed surgically removing the fibroids as well as hysterectomy surgery. I didn't want to have the fibroids removed only to have them come back, so after lots of research, I decided to go with the hysterectomy. There were other treatment options available to me as well, but I felt the hysterectomy was best. My doctor advised me that the vaginal hysterectomy wasn't an option due to the size and location of the largest fibroid. In my case, laparoscopic (small incisions aided by a camera) wasn't ideal either, so I opted for the total abdominal hysterectomy, which was done on February 22, 2019. I am 40 years old and have 4 children plus one that my husband and I adopted for a total of 5 children. My youngest is 13 years old, and I've known for many, many years now that I didn't want to have any more children.

I'm typing all of this because I know but how painful fibroids can be and how miserable the heavy bleeding was. My heavy bleeding caused me to be extremely anemic that I have to take iron supplements for in order to get my hemoglobin counts back in the normal range.

I just want you to know that you aren't alone in your pain. I'm so glad you're on the list for the hysteroscopy. I hope your fibroids will be able to be removed so that you can have your normal life back. Hysterectomy should be a last resort, especially if you want children or more children) as it is a major surgery that comes with a great deal of both emotional grief and physical complications. So definitely continue to seek out other treatment options as you're doing with the hysteroscopy. Please keep us posted on your progress, friend!

Hi Sarah,

Lube said it all. I had exactly the same route as she did. My first doctor tried to fob me of with all sorts of various pills, none of which worked, so I changed doctors to one that listened to me. By the time I had my total abdominal hysterectomy (28.12.18 & 3 months after finally seeing a consultant) my womb had swollen to the size of a large grapefruit. With earlier intervention I could have had the slightly less invasive keyhole surgery, however.....just shows we learn to listen to our bodies sooner!

Good luck and please be reassured that like most women, I am 100% happy I had a hysterectomy, even if it meant I had a forced menopause.
