Fibroid pain ?

Hi there was diagnosed with a 2.5 cm fibroid on the left of the uterus 3 years ago . Last scan in January showed it hadn’t grown . The problem is I keep getting a pulling tugging sensation right side lower stomach which makes it very uncomfortable to bend !! I am going through perimenopause at this time and struggling with heavy bleeding , 2 periods in a month and taking iron for the anemia , also have chronic constipation . Just wondering if the fibroid on left is causing my problems on the right any ideas ladies ? It’s actually driving me mad cause the constant ache and tugging is 24/7

Hi there , don’t be worried but make sure your gp refers you to gynae , depending on your age if you closer to menopause they say they will shrink after meno . I did read somewhere that drinking green tea could help shrink them ! I’m trying that at the moment . This fibroid of mine I’m convinced is causing the tugging aching feeling feels like a pulled muscle never goes away , to the right and below of navel . Because I suffer with chronic constipation the doc thinks I’ve got diverticula , not so sure , have never been referred to gynae either but waiting for a colonoscopy . Even small fibroids can cause a lot of pain and bleeding .didnt know they could cause pain and discomfort even when not on period ! Fingers crossed for you thAt your scan is ok , make sure you ask to be referred to gynae if your doc doesn’t offer.no one should be left miserable with horrible symptoms it actually makes my life very miserable , let me know how you get on , good luck !

in reply toBermuda72

I always take hot water bottle to bed with me I still have periods sometimes twice a month the pain is very bad , bleeding even worse . I don’t have pain when not bleeding just uncomfortable pressure , tugging pulled muscle thing . There are treatments for fibroids just have to get referred first are you in the uk ?

Nope in the US, my periods are regular its not all over the place but its heavy the 2&3rd day i first noticed the little prickle feeling in my right ovary in September then as the month went on it became more like pressure pain bloating constipation & during sex it was a 10 in pain & after that all hell broke loose felt like everything was swollen i was in. Pain & discomfort for a week now im scared to even have sex or think about it i begin to get aniexty thank God my guy understanding with no pressure

in reply toBermuda72

Aww good to know your man is understanding , I’m not sure where ovary pain is felt my pain is by my bellybutton ? I do know that fibroids can grow during perimenopause because of too much estrogen , and ovarian cysts are common too ! Keep me updated let me know how you get on with gynae x

Hi Pansy 2 I had two big fibriods they disided to operate me my pelvic was full of endometrioses what didn t showed up in a mri . I don t want to scare you for no reason but it is a little possibility

in reply towillemine

Hi there that’s interesting I was wandering if going through perimenopause had something to do with it , does endo feel like a pulled muscle ? The feeling just won’t go very uncomfortable can’t even put my socks on ! Am thinking can fibroids have a growth spurt in menopause ? The constipation drives me mad too , did you have that with your fibroids ? My stomach is quite big considering I’m skinny too. Many thanks for your input

willemine profile image
willemine in reply to

I didn t was in menopause i became in menopause after surgery when they removed everything. Its like a pulling nerve and i also was constipated because ilthe endometrioses was also a taught to my bowel ( don t know the right word i am from Holland ).

in reply towillemine

That’s awful! It could be a possibility for me how big were your fibroids the biggest one I have is 2.5cm also have some tiny ones , my mother had hysterectomy due to fibroids too . I haven’t been referred to gynae just had to put up with it the docs just tell me eat more fibre drink more water take laxatives none of it works , had to see emergency doc one time for impacted bowel !! Very embarrassing

My stomach is big like im 5/6 months pregnant im also Constipated but what i notice when its like a flare up its worse i try & eat green vegitables everyday so i stay regular without straining & i drink at least 8 bottles of water aday i cut all alcohol out its not as bad but wish i didnt have to deal with this at all

in reply toBermuda72

Hi there same here , I look like an egg on cocktail sticks lol . Feel like all my symptoms relate to the enemy fibroid but just keep being dismissed all the time . It’s bad enough having the ultrasound drinking all that wAter , trying not to pee yourself while they pressing on your stomach ! Yet some people have fibroids with no symptoms . Yet mines the size of a grape and giving me hell ! I have tried every fruit , veg , liquids and every laxative known to mankind . The back pain is horrendous too , I’m only 49 got more medication than boots pharmacy .Am considering going private for a ct or mri scan just to get sorted can’t cope with this everyday .

Oh i understand really i do i think its where your located because its women out there thats getting the help they need its a matter of the physician bc if i feel as if im going in circles here in Mississippi im relocating somewhere where i can get the help i need have to do researches im from chicago & i reached out to this company that helps women with other alternatives besides hysterectomy

in reply toBermuda72

Think hysterectomy the last option , some people swear by cutting out inflammatory foods like sugar , having acupuncture .im just praying for the menopause !!!!

Hi Pansy I suffered with constipation for 24 years I wasnt opening my bowels for upto and sometimes longer than 2 weeks at a time I would have to put a rubber glove on and self evac this I have been doing for 24 years and my tummy is so painfully I could scream it swells to the size a full term pregnancy and is hard to touch. Last year Sept 2019 I had an hysterectomy and they found I had endometriosis and this was attached to the bowel. Endometriosis can go anywhere. But things did not improve.

I was taking Docusate, movicol, and senna. Then 4 weeks I went to the loo dislodged a blockage and lost 2 litres of blood I ended up in hospital they did a ct scan with dye through and found a mass in my bowel. 2 days later I had another Colonoscopy and they took 6 biopsies they found 6 Polyps one of which was large so they removed it 2 firoids and 2 ulcers and 3 large hemeroids on the rectum. I am now on a liquid or soft diet and am awaiting surgery to have a large piece of my bowel removed. So I guess the advice I am giving you is. Dont keep taking laxatives it is not normal if you cant go for more than 7 days you need to be getting help. Dont allow this to continue, dont let them tell you its gyne related because its night.

My Colorectal Surgeon has hit the roof at how long I have been left like this at our local hospital because now I have to have a lifechanging operation.

in reply toJulie3918

Omg that’s awful did the endo cause this? And was the fibroid in the uterus or bowel ?.youve been through hell I hope you feel better after all you’ve been through.im sick of doctors saying fibroids don’t cause problems I’ve only had bowel problem since fibroid came and now I’m in perimenopause I’m sure I’ve grown another got full constant ache and tugging by my bellybutton , had ct scan showed no problem with other organs doc says it’s ibs !! X
