2 weeks post op. Constipation.

O have just had a virginal hysterectomy and am 2 weeks post op. Operation went well according to the surgeon but after having a bout of diarrhoea i now have constipation. I have taken 8 sachet of movicol in 3 days and still no real difference. Have lots of wind though. Have spoken to doctor and she advised movicol. Feel like I want to go all the time. Should I be worried about this.? Anyone else experience it? My bum feels full and sore. What can I do to alleviate discomfort? Any help.?

Hi, I am 2 weeks down the road from having had a total abdominal hysterectomy and like you, I have had a real problem with daily constipation and chronically painful trap wind. I am taking daily laxatives and peppermint tea/capsules to try and help the situations (plus fruit smoothies & dried fruit etc). However, recently the most effective & smoothing thing has been a small(!) glass of daily prune juice!

Just make sure there is no one downwind of you!

Thanks for replying. Did take some prune juice and laxatives but unfortunately i took too many. You can imagine the result. Anyway prune juice is good and I am also sprinkling fibre food into porridge and salads. Seems to be under control. Am 4 weeks post operation now and walking 2 miles a day. Am tired after though. It's a long process recuperating. Am fed up now!! Hopefully it's going to work out well.

Large cup of prune juice and two laxatives should shift things. You could buy an enema in the chemist to get things started.
