I had a laparoscopy 6 weeks ago. They found some endometriosys and they found several adhesions on my left side (my left ovary was attached to my bowel).
The doctors said I d be fine in 2 weeks. I am at week n6 and I still have a continuous pain on the left (didnt have it before the surgery), my bowel is obviously irritated and sometimes my belly button scar hurts.
Has anyone else taken so long to recover?
Thank you

I am on it, I just wanted to know if what I m going through is normal, I find that doctor in the UK always then do be a bit optimistic about recovery times..
post this in the endometriosis network and you will get a lot more help.
Did they remove all of the endometriosis that they found? Have they referred you to an endometriosis specialist? Did the tell you what stage endometriosis they found? Did they say you would need further surgery? Have you not got a follow up scheduled?
Definitely speak to your gp because anyone with endometriosis has the right to be referred to an endometriosis specialist and if you still have endometriosis left this should be removed or you will continue to get pain.
Take care and yes I was the same after surgery but I was referred to an endometriosis specialist and underwent further surgery with a colorectal surgeon and endometriosis team xx
Hello thank you so much for your reply. The surgery was done by an endometriosys surgeon, he only does that. I had little endometriosys on my bladder and a lot of adhesions on my left side. May I ask why you needed to do a further surgery with a colorectal surgeon and where did you go? Thank you so much. I went to Nuttfield Hospital and my surgery was done by dr Haider Jan.
be careful don’t mention doctors names or they will remove the chat because we are not allowed to mention drs by name on here.
I had deep infiltrated endometriosis on the bowel which cannot be removed even by an endometriosis specialist it needs a colorectal surgeon to do the surgery due to the dangerous and need to resection the bowel or possible stoma so that’s why I needed a second surgery. I also went on to have a total hysterectomy and now await further surgery.
Did you not have any follow up with the endometriosis specialist? Have they given you any treatment ie hormones etc?
Oh I didnt know, thanks. They put me back on birth control pill, I saw them but it was my first day of my period which was very late post surgery so they put my pain down to that. Now the period is over, I m back on the pill and waiting to talk to them again because I still have pain..
they should be able to help you and explain more even if you can ask for your operation notes as that will detail everything they did. Ask them if they left any endometriosis behind ask if you need further sugery. Definitely tell them you are still in pain. Did you have any mri scans done prior to surgery? When will you see them next to discuss as 6 weeks is a long time to wait privately I had my laparoscopy follow up a week after my surgery……I would chase the doctors secretary and get yourself an appointment to see them soon so you can find out what’s actually happened and happening. Sorry I can’t help more xx
Thank you so much. I am in touch with them right now. When I saw them post surgery I had my period, so we all put my discomfort down to that. Now the period is over and I am waiting for them to give me a follow up appointment.
Hey, thank you so much for reaching out. I spoke with them and basically they said that given all the problems I have beside endometriosis (bladder inflammation and chronic nerve pain in my pelvic area) it is likely that the surgery has now triggered inflammation all around my organs and.. well basically I need to wait for god knows how long for tje flare ups to go down.. in all honesty I dont think I d have gone ahead with the surgery if I had known.. but I guess nobody could know. So now I m trying to keep calm and deal with this mess with patience and trying to see some physio/natural doctors to see if they can help. Waiting for a couple of more visits and the results of an MRI to make sure it's all actually fine. Story of my life in the end.. I guess after this I m happy to live with my pain once it will hopefully get back to a manageable state. I m done with doctors.
oh bless you I totally understand and feel your pain it’s a horrible situation constantly relying on doctors due to not being in a functionable state due to pain….story of my life too. I did find both of my endo excision surgeries made me feel worse. The hysterectomy did help initially but then everything went really bad so I’ve stuck between 3 consultants one for the gastro conditions, a new one for the endometriosis and a pain management specialist.
Have they given you anything to help with the pain or at least referred you to a pain management specialist? I have to travel to London to see my consultants as I wanted to make sure I could get to them sooner and get better care vs waiting years on the nhs. Pain management could be a good route for you to take as the general consultants can only offer so much but pain management specialists can do a lot more especially with you having multiple pain conditions.
Just a thought and I’m thinking of you hoping things improve soon. Good luck with the mri results I hope they are helpful too. Big hugs xx
I m sorry to hear that you feel worse after your surgeries, I hear you but I am sure eventually things will get better for both of us. I am due to see also pain specialists but I think there is nothing they can offer me I havent tried. So I m on to see if I can get my body to heal in a more natural way. Best of luck with your appointments too!!
Sorry to hear that you are still in pain. After numerous surgeries I have adhesions on abdomen bowel bladder and pelvis.Essentially my organs are fused together and I have restricted abdominal movement, bladder and bowel problems.
The thing with adhesions is if you have surgery to separate them it causes more scarring and more problems with pain.
I would contact endo specialist re possible surgery and also mention adhesions.
Ok I m so sorry to hear that. I am waiting for the specialist to contact me back. I had something similar too but it's giving me more pain now than before surgery tbh. Did you resolve your problems and how long did it take you to recover and have you got a doctor to recommend? I promise this is my last questions, you have been super kind!
I had a laparoscopic hernia repair 30 years ago and it took me 6 months to recover from the abdominal pain. Any laparoscopic op seems to disturb the bowel and once things are moved slightly they don’t function as well and my op lead to IBS and chronic constipation which referred to the lumbar three disc. Gave sciatic pain and general severe tummy pain especially on the left ( large colon) .Absolutely positive it was the laparoscopy method that caused my issues rather than the actual hernia repair itself.
Understood, I do feel the bowel is probably causing a lot of the problems too, ok if I need to wait for things to improve I can wait, I just cant take another chronic pain on top of the one I already have..
