Re occurring pelvic abcesses

Hi, I'm so pleased to have found this site, I've suffered with pelvic abcesses for 30 yrs, they keep draining it and preforming emergency operations, they left a drain in for a year once, they can't take it out as my insides are stuck together with scar tissue, I've been to pain management but the only thing that works is morphine and I can't function with that, almost everything aggravates my abcesses, e.g., walking, bending, stress even, the pain is awful ,aching, throbbing, sharp pains, it causes pain in my groin and down my leg, hurts when I wee and pass wind, I'm left feeling exhausted with the pain, ive been on the sick for 30 yrs with the condition, now all of a sudden I don't meet critirea and have been told to go and find work, I feel like no one understands what I go through and how serious the condition can get. Thanks for letting me rant on 😀

Rant away Hun! We all need an outlet & I think this site is a good start, for me at least, hopefully for others too. I can't even fathom or completely understand the amount of pain & suffering you have been though, let alone dealing with it so long. Unfortunately I feel my condition is going the same route. It's been over a month & counting. First I'm told it's a marble sized fibroid, now possibility endometriosis... When will it end? So now I'm stuck popping Percocets & naproxen just to manage the pain. Half the time, the medication doesn't even work. I have pressure, pain & urgency to poo. I do pass gas & feel bloated & gassy. I experience constant bladder/uterus stabbing pain, like contractions yet I'm not it ever been pregnant. I'm starting a list of symptoms & crossing them off... I'm going to get to the bottom of this. This is totally unacceptable. :(

Like I said below, I had a pelvic abscess on my rt ovary this summer. It left me completely changed. The experience was a nightmare for me. I have had a sonogram end of Sept and I was told it all looked "beautiful" inside, yet I do have some pain and pressure now on the other side. I keep telling myself I am ok, but the thoughts linger. I feel both of your pains. I would love to chat.

Did you have a sono and did they see anything that would cause your pressure and bloat?

Hi, yes I've had ultrasound, ct and MRI scans all show sacks of fluid, sometimes they seem to leake fluid from my vagina, for years they told me that it was a water infection, then a scan showed one abcess but I knew I had two , one either side as I can feel it's there, eventually they saw that one too on a MRI scan, so if you are feeling symptoms on the other side, make them check it out, you need a ct or MRI scan as they are more detailed, feel free to e mail me anytime if you need a chat 😀

Hi, when my abcesses is playing up it causes a lot of pressure on my bladder and have to urinate frequently, when I start to pee, the pain in my pelvis is intense, takes your breath away type of pain but only fir a few seconds then it calms down as the pressure inside settles down, keep on at your doctor, there is obviously something going on, have they checked you for infection in the uterus, maybe they should do a more detailed scan like a MRI, I hope they can get to the bottom of it for you...

Oh dear that wasn't my intention, you know the one way I know if I have to get help is to keep a track of my temp, if infection is building up, your temperature will go up to 38 .0 c that's when you need to call emergency services .. best to get the doctors to investigate thoroughly to be on the safe side , I hope they get you sorted x

I totally understand your frustration,, sometimes my abcesses feels like something is twisting and squeezing it, sometimes it's a dull ache with a sudden sharp pain, it can hurt in the pelvic area when I pass wind and when I pee, have you had a ct scan or a MRI they are more detailed than a ultra sound, you keep on at them, I agree it's totally unacceptable how they have left you, you know your own body, as I said they may not be able to have seen one of mine on a ultrasound but I knew it's there as I feel it, some months later they tell me , you have another abcess, I said that's no surprise to me, I do hope you get to the bottom of it .

When yours comes back, how do they treat it? Drain, antibiotics, surgery or all?

Maryjayne66 profile image
Maryjayne66 in reply toPaisleyPark

I've had all 3 the last time I wouldn't let them operate, so they gave me 11 days of antibiotics via drip, then I had a months course of antibiotics when I got home, that did the trick 😀

Will they just remove the ovaries and be done with it?

What were your symptoms of an abscess?

PaisleyPark profile image
PaisleyPark in reply tocij131

High fever basically. some pressure but not really painful. Fever lasted over 2 weeks, landed in hospital, found abscess size of orange in CT scan.

Wow, what was the cause?

PaisleyPark profile image
PaisleyPark in reply tocij131

They aren't sure. They thought I had some type of intestinal infection that perforated onto the ovary and caused the abscess, but I have no idea. It was scary that is for sure.

Were you able to have children?

Maryjayne66 profile image
Maryjayne66 in reply tocij131

I've not been able to have children because of all the infections I've had and all the scar tissue , think I've had PID for years

What were your symptoms of PID? Ive had an infection that caused cervicitis and abdominal pain, but no pain on pelvic exam. I have shorter periods now probably due to stress, but did you had obvious symptoms of PID?

Maryjayne66 profile image
Maryjayne66 in reply tocij131

I've had lots of infections, like urinary tract which caused scar tissue and infertility, pain in my pelvic area and diarrhoea

Also does your scar tissue cause symptoms? Thank you so much for your answers.

Not really, my insides are stuck together with scar tissue, my Fallopian tubes were blocked with scar tissue.
