I take ocaliva but my daily vitamin has biotin. My hep is ok with that. I take ocaliva at lunch and my vitamin either after breakfast or bedtime. I’m sure someone on URSO will have an answer for you. 😊

I take URSO and Biotin without a problem. I also take lansoprazole for reflex/indigestion but on my prescription bottle it states not to take any medicine like that within two hours of taking URSO or urso wouldn't be as affective so I just don't but good question for the Dr

I take 20,000mcg the 10,000 mcg was doing nothing but the increase did not help either.

Do you think the Biotin works on your hair loss? I have loss so much hair and I take Biotin and it does not seem to help or help with my nails either my nails are in terrible shape and not getting better, either. I was taking one 10,000 mg a day but I doubled the dose and again no difference. In 2009 my hair was so thick I had to put in two pony tails when I donated it to the Relay for life. Now I can hardly have enough hair for one pony tail. I was diagnosed with PBC Dec. 2017 stage 4. My levels are looking good but I am starting to have a lot more issues. I am glad it is working for you

I will try Walmart I guess. But it will have to wait. I ran into some other health problems so first they have to be taken care of.

Hello, just wanted to say that I'm going through the exact same thing. Nothing has worked for my hair loss. Not Biotin, Rogaine, not any of the shampoos and conditioners promising hair growth. I even take prenatal vitamins just for the extra boost. I do have tons of baby hair meaning that my hair is coming back after it falls; yet I still haven't been able to stop it from falling in great quantities. My hair is now shorter than before because all my long hair is gone. I don't stop using these products though. The fact that I have tons of baby hair means that it's coming back just not staying long enough to grow long. This all thanks to the URSO. My doctor said I have the choice of living bald or dying beautiful. Hmmm not the response I wanted.

If anyone has found something that works to STOP the hair loss and brittle nails...please tell.

My Dr did some blood work ... hoping he finds An answer. I also have a dermatologist appt just to have him check things out !!

According to my dermatologist and my doctor, there's nothing in my blood indicating a reason why the hair loss. But URSO does cause hair loss, it's one of the side effects. As a matter of fact my doctor didn't believe it until he read it himself. He thought I was going crazy or being a hypochondriac, he said none of his other patients had complained about it.

I can’t believe he did not know !! I swear, I had no hair loss on the ACTAVIS Brand .. I’m just gonna have to get a script from my doctor that states ACTAVIS only !!

Joncel36 profile image
Joncel36 in reply to1155Cat

I have never heard of this medication. Is this the same as urso just a different brand? I'm going to have to ask my doctor about it. I'm assuming you are not suffering from hair loss or bone density issues?

1155Cat profile image
1155Cat in reply toJoncel36

It is a different brand of Ursodiol .. I had no side effects on the ACTAVIS brand of Ursodiol ... But when the pharmacy switches the brand to PAR pharmaceuticals brand I suffer from hair loss.

Kulaloke profile image
Kulaloke in reply to1155Cat

On my bottle of Urso says brand Actigall I just called CVS and they said that is the only brand they can get when I asked about ACTAVIS she said they are having some issues with it. So I don't know what to do.

Can you try another pharmacy ?

1155Cat in reply toKulaloke

Prior to the pharmacy switching my brand of the URSO, I had no hair loss. I was taking the ACTAVIS brand And was doing fine on it with no side effects. The pharmacy, on my fourth batch of Urso Changed the brand to PAR pharmaceuticals .... that’s when I started getting side effects, particularly the hair loss. I had a thick head of hair down to the middle of my back, and now I’m going to have to cut it because it’s gotten so thin. I am going to call my doctor and ask him to write this prescription for the ACTAVIS brand only and see if it goes back to no side effects. I have also had my blood work checked to check my iron and my vitamin B, And waiting for results.

Thanks ... I hate having to take this Urso .. 😑

Of course, you can. Biotin is just the vitamin B7. I take as a part of multivitamins, in the morning, when I take URSO. I haven't had any drug interaction issues with the two. When I started on URSO, I did a thorough check on drug interference with the pharmacist. Only one med you can't take together with URSO, which is a substance that has aluminum in it, like Mylanta or Maalox. Also, it is a good idea to have some space between URSO and estrogen, if you take it. It's even OK to take antacids with URSO, like TUMS or Nexium.

Good luck!

Ahhh.. thanks for the info on taking Tums too ... I love this place .. I learn something new all the time !! 🙂

Tums are lowering stomach acid, which is highly not advisable(..Food is not digested properly, and all sort of problems arrive from that(

Instead of TUMS much better to take DGL 20 minutes before your every meal, and L-Glutamine 30 min before meals in the morning and evening. You will heall the problem, without reducing stomach acid, works soo well!!

Too bad doctors dont tell people about this.

Tums are much more profitable, i guess, in a long term, create many potential problems)

What is DGL?

luxe66 profile image
luxe66 in reply toexy21

Its special form of licorice, with certain compound, which might raise blood pressure, removed., sweet, doesnt taste like licorice, sold in health stores as a supplement

Hi 1155Cat

my hair loss was getting worse, I was referred by the hepatologist to a dermatologist who has since diagnosed zinc deficiency, mild plano planopilaris and female pattern hair loss. I had been using Biotin Shampoo and conditioner in addition to the B7 which is in my multi vitamin but it made no difference. Currently I am prescribed a zinc effervescent tablet daily and Etrivex twice a week. The dermatologist has recommended I purchase minoxidil as it is not prescribed in the UK

It may be worth getting checked out.

best wishes

Thank you ☺️ My Pharmacy keeps going back and forth from The brands of of URSO ... the PAR pharmaceuticals is the brand that made me start loosing my hair. I just had some bloodwork done, I will have them check the zinc level if they did not. What kind of Biotin shampoo do you use ?? And I do have a dermatologist appt set as well !! Thanks for your response !!

I tried to share a photo but the technology beat me. It just says Biotin Shampoo and comes in a red/orange bottle. I did buy it from Amazon.

Wow ... thanks for the info ... I will make sure they check the zinc. I have heard a lot of stuff about the minoxidil ... I need to read about it though as some say it does not work for all.

iagra- thanks. What are the reasons for not being allowed Mylanta or Maalox? Does that apply to anything with aluminum? What will happen if combining the two?

ninjagirlwebb profile image
ninjagirlwebb in reply toCstar1079

I think it may render the urso ineffective. Bottle says do not take within 2 hours of antacids.

Avoid using antacids without your doctor's advice. ... Antacids contain different medicines and some types can make it harder for your body to absorb ursodiol.
