Hi everyone ❤️❤️

My hepatologist started urso with 1500mg/day. I’m 55kg. Isn’t it too much for me? Does anyone else take same dosage?

Thank you

The recommended adult dosage for URSO 250® and URSO Forte® in the treatment of PBC is 13-15 mg/kg/day administered in two to four divided doses with food. Dosing regimen should be adjusted according to each patient's need at the discretion of the physician.

Thank you❤️ So it’s about 2ply of recommended dose. Although he wants to visit again in 1 month, maybe will taper it then.

I guess the keywords are dosing should be adjusted to each person’s needs at discretion of doctor. You can just ask your doctor that you read the above & why he recommends such a high dose. Always ask the doctor any questions that you have without feeling awkward. You can preface it like, can you help me understand...why we... That way it doesn’t sound like you are second guessing him/her & make it more about your own understanding. Some doctors are okay with all the questioning; others might get a bit miffed because they sometimes can have an “ego” trip. You have to see which category they fall under & adjust your words accordingly.

Hi, it’s good that you’ve been started on Urso. The evidence shows there’s no advantage in taking more than the recommended 13-15mg per kilo. There may not be any harm, unless you experience more side effects, but that would be a shame. Usually best to start lower and taper up for that reason.

I weigh a few kilos less than you and take 1000. That’s a bit higher than my recommended dose but convenient to take 500 morning and evening.

Thankyou, I wish I wouldn’t experience side effects

My doc started me on 1800 mg Urso in May 2014; tried tapering me to 1200 mg in January, but I started having trouble, so we settled on 1500 mg a day since then. I may drop back a little when I see doc in December, depending on labs. I want the minimum amount that will keep symptoms at bay. Since my work load has lightened, I may be able to get by with less. Blessings as you walk this uncertain journey. I had labs monthly until Dec, then quarterly for 2015, twice in 2016, and now once a year. I only see gastro doc 1x a year now since 2016 since labs are in normal range and symptoms are minimal as long as I take care of myself.

I hope my labs would be in normal range soon,

I made several lifestyle changes after my diagnosis. Resting an hour between 5 hours teaching and 4 hours tutoring ( I work at home ) helped me get thru each work day. I shifted to all natural products (shampoo, goat's milk soap, minimal make-up, etc.) to minimize the chemical load on the liver. I increased fresh foods, limited processed foods, and reduced sugar intake as well as drinking 64 oz. of water most days. Most of my life has been spent taking care of others as a special education teacher. Taking care of myself was hard to learn, but continues to be a vital part of my life. It took many months before all my labs reached normal ranges, but the slowly dropping numbers helped me know I was on the right track. Blessings!

Hi I used to be on 1,000kg a day. However, was reduced last year to 750kg and seems to be okay I am 61 years and weigh11st 7lbs. I have gained weigh as due to the varices I now take Carvedilol 12.3kg twice a day which can make you gain weight.

I do believe the Urso does go by your weight but not 100% sure. I agree with ninjagirl always ask consultant. I only used to go to the clinic on an annual basis and nothing changed for years. Then when I was informed about the varices I took it upon myself to take questions with me in a notebook and write the answers down that he was giving me so that I understood what was being said to me as it was all very frightening thinking what could happen. Again nijagirl is right some doctors do get a bit miffed, I didn't particularly like the consultant as I felt is was a quick as he could get me out the door as everything was ticking over, until my appointment I had after finding the varices and he was rather taken aback at me saying I have questions that I would like answers in layman's terms, since then he has been exceptionally nice, and actually spoke with me after the appointment last week to put my mind at ease. Remember they are not GOD and its our bodies they are working with so always always ask.

I hope you get answers Janice.

Hi,

I was recently prescribed 900 mg/day and I’m 59 kg. My doctor explained the treatment range of 13-15 mg/kg and also mentioned that some insurance plans would only pay for certain milligram pills and that I may be over a bit if that was the case..mostly for dosing convenience. But it worked out and so far no side effects. Best of luck to you😊

I’m looking forward what will happen in next appointment a month later. Here in my country, the insurance pays all the amount which doctor prescribed but you can only buy your drug when previous prescription duration has finished.

Wishing you the best at your next appointment. I go back in mid December and hope my labs are down too. They were only slightly elevated but it's still an awful waiting game to see if you respond. I will have been on it for 3 months.

I’m also stressed to see if responding to urso or not.

Wish you luck❤️ Keep in touch and say me good news about your labs

Technically the guidelines would recommend 750 for you.

Where in the world are you?

Have you contacted the Foundation directly? We can give you printed materials.
