I have just been given Urso to start taking and i have to take 3 x 250mg a day but not sure if i take one three times a day or all 3 tablets at once??? the pharmacy label just says 3 once daily? can anyone help?

Try taking them at different times to see what suits you best. I take my 3 after breakfast all in one go. Others take them all at night, some space them out during the day .

I think you may find after food is best but there seems to be no hard and fast rule.

I agree with Oidra; try and see what works best for you.

I take 3 a day, one with breakfast, one with lunch, and one with dinner. If I don't take it with food sometimes my stomach feels upset. If I take 2 at a time, I get diarrhea (sorry if that's too much information).

Hello tinajohnston.

I started taking the urso December 2010 and started off twice a day. Took first dose with breakfast and then final around 9p.m. Over time I have experimented as in the early days I did have a few initial side-effects.

I take 4 x 150mgs daily and for the last few months I've been taking 300mgs with breakfast, 150mgs around 2p.m. and then the final around 8p.m. I find this is better for me. I itched pre-diagnosis and still do (though less than in the beginning of the urso) and I did take all at once at one point, in the morning but found that within a few hours I was itching badly which was odd so I just space mine out.

It is said that in the early days for some it is best building up by taking more spaced out doses.

My pharmacy labels state 'twice daily' but I don't take any notice. If you feel best taking it a certain way, as long as you take the lot during the day, quite fine apparently.

I take 4 a day I did take all 4 together but it upset my stomach so I now take 2 at breakfast and 2 with my evening meal and that seems to work for me but we are all different I would do like oidra has suggested and see which is best for you .

Hi I also take Urso 3 x 250 mg and have all 3 just after breakfast, you'll find taken them after food better. It really is what's best for you but try, I have had PBC 15yrs and this way suits me.

I take 2 a day. From the start ive yaken one with breakfast and one with dinner. To start i would definitely not take them together.

I am on Ursofalk, the leaflet says "during the first 3 months of treatment you should take Ursofalk capsules in the morning, at midday and in the evening. As liver function tests improve the total daily dose may be taken once a day in the evening." Also the dose taken is relative to what you weigh. I am in excess of 80 kilos and take 5 X 250 capsules a day. Which URSO are you on?

Hopefully the leaflet inside your box can give you a definitive answer if not a telephone call to the doctor might give you a better idea.

Later once you have become accustomed to the ursodeoxycholic acid you can change the way you take your dose to suit you as described by other contributors.

Professor Neuburger has made a couple of contributions in the last year certainly one on URSO which might be of interest to you. I take 1 with each meal as I was getting too much reflux taking them all at once.
