Hello Sandie1.

Apparently you can take paracetamol with PBC and it's said most medications unless you are in a later stage with PBC (ie cirrhosis).

I am in the UK and if you are unsure, you could perhaps contact your GP and ask.

If you check out the PBC Foundation leaflet that I received through the post when I joined some years ago now (I was diagnosed with PBC December 2010) it does state that most over-the-counter medications (not got the right quote here) are OK.

I've not taken any other medications since pre-2010, just have the urso but know I would if I had to. The only thing that I've thought about regarding other medicatons that we don't take when we start urso or are diagnosed with PBC and might temporarily later on is would they alter the LFTs slightly as some meds can in patients with no liver issues.

My consultant allowed me to have paracetamol for back pain but when the pain became unbearable and the paracetamol was having little effect, he would not agree to anything else.

Hi I have had PBC for 15 yes and recently had a full knee replacement the only medication the consultant would give me was paracetamol (because of the PBC ) in hospital. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Sandie, just got over one myself took weeks. Paracetamol is fine - in fact the only thing we can take without checking with GP first! Hope you are feeling better soon. X

I was told paracetamol can be taken. To check with anything else. although if i ask doctors i just get a blank look. As im finding out not many GP'S know about PBC which they fully admit to

Although not recommended I have to take an occasional ibuprofen for migraine as paracetamol doesn't work!

Pre diagnosis of pbc I was taking Co-codamol regularly ,when I was diagnosed I was wondering if I could take anything but the specialist at the gastro clinic said it was fine to carry on as prescribed, but I now try to take them less , for things like flu & cold I would definitely take some thing as it's only for a short time.
