Long story, please read for answer.

18 months ago my Dr ran bloods to find why I could be so tired all the time.

They found a "thing" iny blood.

The scary thing ... This thing can lead to bone marrow cancer.

Every 3 or 4 months, I give blood and they check the level of this thing.

A couple weeks later, they call me, tell me thing is steady and fine.

Then asks ... Do I have new pain IN a big bone ... Not a joint, but on the middle of the none, likey thigh none.

Now without trying to scare you, I suggest you get checked for AG16 (I THINK that's what it's called.)

It just may be that it is pain from the trauma site of the op, and you're thinking it's a different place

.. this is normal in very cold weather after a bone op. ...... Tooth ache often tells lies, and it's not the tooth we think it is. ..... Bit either way, get it checked with a blood test.

Hi, I’m really sorry to hear that you’re experiencing such intense and recurring pain, especially during winter and at night. I can imagine how frustrating and exhausting this must be, especially since you’ve already consulted a doctor and haven’t found a clear solution yet. I’d like to share some ideas that might help you or give you new avenues to explore with your doctors:

1. Cold sensitivity or seasonal changes

Cold weather can significantly impact the body, particularly if you’ve had surgery in the past. It can cause muscles to tense up, make nerves more sensitive, or even trigger joint pain. This might explain why your pain worsens in the winter. You could try keeping your leg as warm as possible during the night by using heat packs or thermal clothing to see if it makes any difference.

2. Neuropathic pain

The fact that the pain is far from the surgery site suggests that it could be related to nerve issues in that leg. Sometimes, nerves that were damaged or irritated (even years after surgery) can cause pain in different areas. A neurologist could help evaluate this with tests like a nerve conduction study.

3. Circulatory issues

Night-time leg pain can also be linked to problems with blood flow. For example, peripheral artery disease or venous insufficiency can cause discomfort and pain, particularly in cold weather. A vascular specialist might be able to rule out these kinds of conditions.

4. Muscle cramps or spasms

Although your doctor suggested that the pain might be due to muscle cramps, the fact that painkillers aren’t helping indicates that it might be something more complex. If the pain is indeed muscle-related, techniques like massages, specific stretches, or even medications like muscle relaxants might be more effective. Consulting a physiotherapist might also be beneficial, as they can guide you through exercises or techniques to reduce muscle tension.

5. Chronic pain or Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)

Although it’s less common, some patients develop a condition called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome after surgeries or injuries. This could explain the intense and persistent pain you’re describing. This condition usually requires a multidisciplinary approach with specialists in pain management.

6. Seek a second medical opinion

You’ve already taken an important step by consulting your doctor, but if the pain persists and is affecting you so severely, it might be worth seeking a second opinion. Sometimes, another specialist (such as a rheumatologist, neurologist, or pain management doctor) can offer a different perspective and suggest other tests or approaches.

Practical tips for now:

Keep your leg warm: Use electric blankets or heating pads to ease night-time pain.

Consider supplements (with medical advice): Sometimes, deficiencies in magnesium, potassium, or vitamin D can contribute to muscle cramps and pain.

Gentle exercises: Stretching before bed or low-intensity exercises like yoga might help relieve muscle tension.

Relaxation techniques: Practising deep breathing or meditation before bed might help you cope with the pain emotionally and improve your tolerance.

I understand how difficult this pain must be, especially with how severe it gets at night. Don’t give up—keep seeking answers and exploring options with medical professionals. I truly hope you find relief soon. If you need more ideas or support, don’t hesitate to ask.

Stay strong!👍🙏
