CT GUIDED NERVE ROOT INJECTION LUMBAR.

Have had 2 Ct Guided nerve root injections about 10 years ago. Unfortunately the pain in both legs has returned. After seeing 2 consultants at my local hospital both are reluctant to offer me an injection. Instead I have received a letter telling me I am on the list to see a neuro surgeon at the Walton Centre in Liverpool. In a letter to my surgery the last consultant wrote that because the first injection I had only lasted 6 months then there is no point in having an injection now.

What I would like to know is if any one has had this sort of injection how long did it last for. My under standing of such an injection is to give you some relief from pain and really you should not expect it to last for the rest of your life.

My hip pain one lasted about 2 years. The consultant was surprised it lasted longer than a year.It was very effective and I'm hoping to get another one. But the waiting list is way too long.😭

Nerve blocks are a diagnostic technique and if there is a nerve compressed they won’t last.

What surgery are they thinking you need?

I had intractable burning pain from acquiring right sided pudendal nerve entrapment. No medications or nerve blocks helped me. I had decompression surgery ( the nerve was released from the ligaments and fascia it was stuck on ) and I’m doing much better. My surgery should have been done sooner as I believe I would have healed 100%.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Many thanks Konagirl60. I fully understand that these injections do not last a life time but they are offered to give some relief for how ever long they last. With some people they last for many many months for some strange reason where as with some people like myself the first injection I had lasted 6 months. The second injection lasted just over 2 months. Then I had an operation. I have no idea why they think a neuro surgeon can help. However I get the impression that my local hospital just do not want to help me.

What operation did you have? Who did it and why?

I know the feeling of being dismissed or gas lighted by caregivers. It causes the person in pain unnecessary distress.

Do you have burning tingling pain or is it more muscle spasms or aches? What meds have you tried? Have you tried Amytriptyline at bed time or an anti inflammatory?

Have been given many pain killers all have been of no use at all in easing the pain. How ever the after effects have been terrible. The latest medicine I was given was in fact Amytripyline which did not ease the pain but at least after 2 or 3 days it helped me to get to sleep. What I would like to know out of interest is there any posters on this site who have had a CT Guided nerve root injection-lumber and how long it lasted. Thank you Konagirl60 for your reply. With regards the neuro surgeon I had an appointment for February 6th but it was cancelled. New appointment March 5th so fingers crossed.

My nerve blocks were injected into my buttock aiming for the ligaments where the pudendal nerve is often ( 77% of cases ) entrapped.

Sorry, I can’t help.

What kind of surgery did you have? Just wondering. My first surgery failed after one and a half year and the nerve block injections did not help after that. It might be helpful if they first did another MRI to see why the nerve pain has come back before sending you to a neuro surgeon as he wil, have to do one anyway before he can offer an opinion.
