Hi Juls, I had this procedure a couple of months ago, I took night gown slippers etc and I didn't need them, the information booklet i got with my appointment said to take these items in as if you were staying as overnight patient, you don't need anything and will be in and out in a couple of hours.

I was not sedated but was given injections either side of my spine to numb it.

Good Luck, hugs

Hi Juls, I hope you get the sedation you asked for, that's probably why it was in your letter.

I hope all goes well for you and whatever you are having the blocks for work for you, I can just see you running down the corridor in your hospital gown trying to do a runner lol.

You will be fine x

The injection without sedation is nothing, really!

well i asked for it.. which i might say has taken bout 5 months for this so hope they still doing it. im a chicken .

If they are considering sedation you need to confirm that as you will need someone to hold your hand and get you back home. You may be expected to stay on the ward for a couple of hours after a sedation, that is why they ask you to take a dressing gown.

They will also give you a gown to wear if above is what they have decided

Dressing gown to go over your backless hospital gown while you are waiting, and while recovering. Slippers because you will have undressed and taken your shoes off. You may not need them, if you don't have to wait about long, but if they say to take them, then do so.

Sounds like they expect to use sedation if you aren't allowed anything to eat. Check whether you need someone to pick you up again though. In our local hospital they won't give sedation if you don't have someone to collect you from the hospital, and you aren't even allowed to go home on public transport on your own.

Hello. When I had my first root block injection I had to take a dressing gown and slippers etc and was in the surgical day unit for most of the day and they wouldn't allow me to leave until I had been to the toilet and passed water.

The second time I was only there just over an hour. No dressing gown etc I just changed into a gown once my name was called and the paperwork completed. I was into the treatment room injection done in no time. Once done I wS able to get dressed and leave.

I have this done regular I take in slippers and dressing gown as I walk down to theatre I am awake and after they bring my bed in and wheel me back to the ward. As soon as I have had something to eat and drink I can go home, I have 4 plasters as I have a spine root block on both left and right side which I keep on for 24 hours.

I can eat and drink as normal but don't worry if you are awake during the root block it is not painful

Hi Juls, I've had this done twice and I had local anesthetic and sedation. I didn't feel a thing. Just felt a little tired and spaced out after.

Everything you have said was the same for me, they advise slippers and dressing gown so you are not just sitting in the backless hospital gown they give, if you need the loo or something.

Hope all goes well
