Ct guided cervical nerve block

I had a CT guided nerve block steriod injection two weeks ago for herniated c7 disc.

First three days, pain disappeared, on fourth day and every day since, I'm in severe pain, worse than before I had the injection.

Does this mean the injection has not worked??

Sometimes these injections do fail, however it may be the area is bruised internally and eventually it will settle, try and give it time.

On occasions you may go through the same again, the target is small.

Hi Shell2507

I had this injection also and initially had the same results. After a few weeks things started to calm down more and the pain became bearable and I was feeling a lot better. Can I ask you where were you feeling the pain before and after injection please?

I have also had the steriod injection and the pain was a lot better for two days, and then the pain came back just the same. I was at a pain clinic a few weeks later and got talking about the injection, not one of the dozen people had any benefit from the injection, and they also had talked about the affects from the injection with other people, and no one received any benefit

I believe that the local injection that I had before the injection helped decrease the pain for a short period.

An MRI would be the best diagnostic tool to see what is going on in your C-spine. While you may have a herniated disc, there may be other issues causing your radiculopathy. Whilst I had disc problems, the actual pain was caused by the C6/7 foramina (the holes through which the nerves pass through on leaving the spine. I had a foraminotomy by a c-spine specialist neurosurgeon (Mr Choi) at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. My pain in shoulder arm and hand went immediately.

I worked for a pain physician for 15 years, he did these types of injections all the time. They do take time to start working. I would get at least 2 more and if your pain is still not resolved I would recommend a different direction. Today there are many ways to help. I hope your pain subsides. Been there..

Nerve block do not deal with over contracted muscles which apply pressure on nerves. You need to correct the postural issues that cause the problem. Ignoring this can make the problem much worse.

Nerve Block blocked initial pain. Nerve Block also damaged feedback that prevents muscles from doing stupid things. Result muscles doing stupid things can get worse applying more problematic discomfort.

You say: "say I have C4 herniated disc in neck". Poor muscle behaviour can cause C4 herniated disc in neck. You have not tacked the issue of poor muscle behaviour. This is the domain of the Alexander Teacher.
