Howdy folks - I've got a list of various pains / uncomfortable sensations that I've seen the doctors about several times, and the only conclusion they've come to is 'We don't think it's serious'.

For about a year now I've been getting sporadic sharp shooting pains in my chest (left of my sternum), a heavy, uncomfortable feeling across my chest which makes taking deep breaths difficult, and aching shoulder muscles - all of which I think are connected.(the Doctors say my chest sounds fine & my heart looks OK, which is good)

For as long as I can remember I've always had episodes of sharp shooting pains in random places across my body, and I've dealt with generic joint & back pains for quite a while now, but the pains in my chest are so uncomfortable and the only advice I have so far is "keep using Ibuprofen".

My sternum does occasionally click when I stretch so I've been wondering if it could be something such as Costochondritis, but I don't want to jump to conclusions! Any ideas?

Thanks!

Update : My blood test results are showing high (out of range) MCHC levels, but I'm not sure if that is related. I'll be speaking with my doctor next week about it.

Perhaps you’ve strained a muscle . Hope it eases soon. 😊

Costochrondritis is certainly a good candidate and I don't know why more doctors don't discuss this with their patients as it would stop a lot of from worrying that they are having a heart attack.

There is another condition that you might want to think about called hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome or hypermobility spectrum disorder.

Have a look at the EDS uk website and if you think the picture fits, try talking to your GP about it using the RCGP EDS Toolkit.

Your doctors are right, it probably isn't anything serious but there are things you can do to make life more comfortable if it is EDS. (and don't panic if you read about the rarer forms of EDS, they are very very rare and if you had them you woudl probably know already!)

Thank you! I will definitely look into EDS more, but at the moment I'm not entirely sure it fits the bill. I'll be starting physio soon for lower back & joint pain, maybe that will provide some insight too!

Hi, I had similar pain when my Gallbladder needed to come out. In the end, the pain became constant. Might be worth asking if it could be your gallbladder with your blood results. I also have hEDS not sure if it’s a coincidence as cyberbarn mentioned it too. The clicking could be caused by a subluxation of a rib.

Hope you get some answers. 😊

The Sternum has quite a high level of movement and you can transmit pain caused by ribs, small ribs so the lungs can actualy breath in and our. Some times people can suffer from a form of Arthritis,, Some of the small rib cage are not of bone.
