Everyone processes pain differently. For some with a high threshold who are not very sensitive to pain, they may feel little pain from the same procedure where someone feels a lot. There will probably be a lot of inflammation which in one way is good, that is your body dealing with the 'injury'. But that inflammation can also hurt. If you are worried and the pain isn't getting better, can you talk to the place where the arthroscopy happened? They should have a nurse you can talk to on the phone just to make sure things are okay.
I would say yes it’s very normal, I have over the years had a number of arthroscopy’ said on my knee, one of them I was bruised from my knee to my big toe and it took 3 months for it too heal properly, not quite sure what the consultant was doing that day, as previous ones had been bruised and painful but that one, phew hurt.
Everyone is different even though it is keyhole surgery there will be swelling and the instruments they use will have aggravated anything in that area. They have also removed cartilage which will leave you in pain and sore. Just take it easy, take the pain meds regularly to keep on top of the pain and you will then hopefully be on the road to recovery.
Take care
