Hi Pixie, I am happy for you. What drugs were you on initially and most importantly what is the tablet you have been put on longterm. I am guessing you are BRCA positive and it is a PARP inhibitor?

Pixiepurple profile image
Pixiepurple in reply to StilCrazy

Hi StilCrazy, I have my 6th session of chemo next week & will get info on tablet on the 6th Nov, do PARP only work if you are Brca positive, I was told I was negative? Thank you for reply.

StilCrazy profile image
StilCrazy in reply to Pixiepurple

I think they are beginning to use PARP inhibitors on BRCA negatives but historically they thought they only worked on BRCA positive people. I am also negative and read an article saying that although they are not as effective as they are in positive people, they are still a lot better than most of the other ovarian drugs used after initial chemo and surgery. I want to try it too!! But I am not in the UK and it would cost me more than a month's salary every month for 2 years so... I need some positive stories to tell my medical aid. Keep me posted if you learn anything new. In my country the oncologists do not even offer it because of the price.

Pixiepurple profile image
Pixiepurple in reply to StilCrazy

Hi Stilcrazy thank you for all the info. So are you taking anything at the moment then to help you? That is awful that they don't provide this great drug because it costs too much. I will keep you posted on what I am offered. Best wishes.

StilCrazy in reply to Pixiepurple

No. The cancer came back in my abdominal lymph nodes 6 months after finishing 6 rounds of carbo/taxol. Any other chemo I tried would relapse even quicker and would have worse side effects, so I left it. I feel well and couldn't sacrifice that for a chemo that probably would work for 4 months! 7 months later and no cancer progression for now. I am well and have no discomfort, but we all know how sneaky and asymptomatic this cancer is, so any drug that has even a 20% chance of success is worth trying. I struggle to really enjoy life and not feel like I am waiting for the axe to fall!

Pixiepurple profile image
Pixiepurple in reply to StilCrazy

I so hope it stays away for you & the government supplement the cost of the Parp drugs soon. I know how you feel with regards to life. Its the first thing you think of when you wake & the last thing you think of at night. Hopefully as time goes on things will get easier🀞🀞

I am BRCA neg and I take Niraparib (parp inhibitor )with Avastin. I think it is working

Pixiepurple profile image
Pixiepurple in reply to Tealgirl7

That is so good to hear. I am taking notes of all the meds so have info at next meeting. Thank you so much x
