Does anyone know about Abraxane? A friend has moved to this instead of Paclitaxel and apparently it's a much shorter treatment. An hour or half an hour rather than 5 hours. I wondered if anyone here knew about it?

Abraxane
This link mentions Abraxane, which is a different form of paclitaxel; though it is aimed at breast cancer sufferers rather than ovarian, the info on the drug and the comparison table of side effects still applies, though it doesn't seem to mention how long the infusions take.
breastcancer.org/research-n.... Looks like Abraxane wasn't quite so effective as paclitaxel, but have a read for yourself, then maybe talk to your oncologist...

I was on abraxane with carboplatin for my first recurrence. I had this because I could not have paclitaxol. It seemed to have only the usual side effects and one or other drug must have done some good as I had many months Ned.
Hello! I might be starting Abraxane, depends if my insurance will accept it. Anyway, did you have a bad reaction to Taxol, is that why you had to take Abraxane instead? How was it? and how long were the infusions? thanks for your reply!
I had a bad reaction to taxol and was immediately taken off it on my first treatments. Had only carboplatin that time. When I recurred after 18 months my oncologist decided to combine carbo with abraxane. Because I had the two drugs I am not sure about your questions, sorry.
yes. my friend had an allergic reaction to the paclitaxol and was given abraxane instead. all fine with her now. infusion was only an hour or so instead of five so can only be good. xx
