Anyone on here have this chemo combo and if so any advice? I’m starting Nov 21 and I’ve had chemo twice before and Taxotere gave me horrible reaction so the Abraxane supposed to be a little better “they” say but I’d like to hear from someone who has actually had it.
Thanks
Debbi
PS: I’m scared

I just read your history and you have got to be the luckiest unlucky cancer survivor on here!
So you started out with Breast cancer, but now you have Ovarian Cancer, but they want to treat you with a different version of Pacitaxel, the one the use most for breast cancer.
You are going to have the big guns, so no matter what, it is going to be very hard in you and you need to give in to treatment, let friends and loved ones pamper you.
Thanks for your response Laura. When I read your profile I was inspired so good to hear from you. I did have the gene testing a couple years ago after the 3rd bout of BC and Brca 1 and 2 were both negative so I guess I can just chalk this up to being “lucky”
I had a reaction to taxol so on my first recurrence I had abraxane. I was also told it was the same basic drug but it as the way it was packaged. This made it easier to tolerate. I had no dramatic problems with it. Cost was an issue as where I live it is only approved for breast cancer. I was fortunate to be given it by the drug company on compassionate grounds.
You’re the first person I’ve talked to that has had it. So glad you didn’t have a reaction. Makes me hopeful. I did read that it’s expensive and mainly for breast cancer but I have that too so lucky me
Hi Debbie. I know new treatments can be scary. I havnt had that particular chemo combo so cannot help with any information on that. I just wanted to wish you well.
Abraxane is a form of Taxoland for Frontline, I believe many have Taxol and Carboplatin. I did--and I tolerated it well. It was the Carbo that was a bit more difficult for me but I had (in one cycle) Taxol and Carbo on week 1, taxol week 2 and 3. That was a cycle. So they may have given me a lower dose of the taxol since it was weekly. I tolerated it well--the chemo made me not feel great on days 3 and 4--when the steroids started to wear off but then I was back to feeling like myself. I had mild neuropathy that went away as soon as treatment ended. I am also a Stage 4 girl and after Frontline I was NED. We are all different in our how bodies respond to any treatment or maintenance so I wish you luck and hope it is not hard on you. oxoxo Judy
P.S. Do not be shy about your side effects--there is usually something to counter almost every one of them but you must speak up if experiencing them!
I can’t believe what you’ve been through! But you’ve survived! I think the side effects of any taxol will be similar but not the reaction to the chemo that you get during treatment because that’s caused by the solution it’s mixed in. I thought taxol was bad during frontline and it did cause neuropathy and joint pain but now that I’m on Carbo and doxil(caelyx) I am realizing Carbo may have been a problem. I am flat on my back days 6-8 and counting, nauseous if I sit up. It’s the same as last time only I was also sick days 3-5 which I wasn’t on frontline. Anyway I wish you the best and hope you kick the cancer for good this time!
JUST WANT TO ADD ONE THING... I HAD ABRAXANE/CARBO AND THE FIRST WEEK
WAS THE WORST. I FOUND THAT TRUE FOR CARBO/TAXOL AS WELL. IT GETS ESIER WITH LESS SIDE EFFECTS AFTER THE FIRST WEEK SO DON'T BE DISCOURAGED. I'M SURE THAT YOU CAN GET THROUGH IT. JUST REST AND DRINK LOTS OF WATER. FOR NAUSEA I GOT EMEND AND ALOXI VIA IV. IT WORKS BUT NEED BOTH. YOU'VE BEEN THROUGH SO MUCH YOU CAN DO THIS!
Lee that’s encouraging to hear! I thought that chemo was cumulative and that the side effects get worse with each treatment? At least that’s why I’ve been told?
