Hi all, I've had my BRCA2 gene meeting. It lasted an hour even though it was only supposed to be half an hour. It was mainly about family members and what we can do for them. For me, I get a yearly mammogram. Thought I'd have more to tell you.

When my mum was diagnosed we also had a braca meeting, we went as far as having mum tested (lots of paperwork in beweeen) but the results came back negative for BRACA gene. So they stopped there. We do have a heavy presence of cancer in my close family so i do feel slightly worried they will not take it any further.
My gp was supportive in suggesting every 3 years i could opp for a mammogram/ ultrasound if I was concerned.
There's no sign of BRCA in my family on my mother's side. Don't know about my father's as I've no contact but the main concern is for my daughter. If I've passed the gene on to her she can elect to have a double mastectomy and reconstruction. Let's hope she hasn't got it.
I don't think there's much to worry about if no one has the gene. We just have to take our chances like everyone else. I'd certainly ask your GP if you're worried though because it will help put your mind as ease. x

How are you feeling about it? I was told I was BRCA2 positive in Feb 2017 but I’ve hesrd nothing since. If you e more questions etc make sure you ask them.

I don't think I have any questions at the moment but who knows in the future. As I always say 'you don't know what you don't know until you know it'.
I feel okay about it. I'd got myself ready to have some nice new boobs but I'll just have to put up with the ones I've got. I've never been happy with them which sounds bad when there are women that have to have surgery that they'd rather not have.

I was tested for the BRCA gene and it was positive for BRCA 1, they recommended I have a double mastectomy but not until six months after my chemo had finished, but within weeks of getting the results my scan showed up activities in the breast and bones. I now have secondary breast and bone cancer. It’s worth having the test done, Unfortunately it’s too late to help me, but my daughter has had it since and she is also BRCA 1 positive, so she will be monitored on a yearly basis, and will be offered the mastectomy, and to have her ovaries removed to prevent getting this dreadful disease, once she gets to a certain age. X
I'm sorry to hear it was to late to help you but it could save your daughter's life. My hoping my daughter and son won't carry the gene but apparently there's a 50% chance either way. We'll just have to wait and see. Like most things during all this, it's a waiting game. xx
I found out my daughter has the BRCA2 gene at the exact moment the needle was being removed after my final Avastin. You couldn't have written it, I went from being elated to devastated within a minute. My daughter has learning and sensory disabilities and I feel broken. We are on holiday right now and she doesn't know. We will meet with the councillor on our return, I'm dreading it 😞
I can only feel for you. I tell myself at least they'll be checked regularly and catch anything early unlike us who didn't have a clue.
I'm dreading telling my daughter. I'm going to wait until she's had her baby or at least until the letter arrives. At least your daughter will be checked regularly. Depending on her age they start MRI scans yearly from about 40 and mammograms from about 35. I'm still crossing my fingers that my daughter will be lucky and not have inherited the gene. x
Hi, Zenaj, Glad you finally had the test and all seems ok at the moment I was negative which I was glad for my daughters but their GP still wont's to monitor them which I think is a good idea. Take care Lorraine xx
Glad all was well for you and thank goodness for a doctor that's willing to keep testing. It does make you feel more comfortable to know you're being looked after.
