Hi all, hope you are each doing well during these crazy times.

I was dx May 2018 Stage 3 OC - CA125 was 2600 - had surgery followed by weekly Taxol and then Carbo every 3rd week - for 18 weeks.

My monthly CA125 has been between 4 and 7 since I finished chemo November 2018 - until today. Result was 17.

I have read concern is if it doubles in a month or is above 35. I read too inflammation can cause the increase.

Has anyone had a high reading and then it actually lowered with your next lab?

I am scheduled for a CT in May for a two year follow up from surgery.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

Blessings to all!

Elayne

Hi Elayne. I'll begin at June 2019 - my CA125 was then at its highest at 44. Then July, it was 38, August was 27, Nov 35, Dec 41, Jan 2020 40, Feb was 41. I've been on Avastin (only) for around 5.5 years, so these variations were all while I was on 3-weekly infusions of Avastin. My onc is unconcerned about these fluctuations. Hope this helps. Best wishes. Pauline.

My ca125 is never high, even with a recurrence, but it went up a few points the time before last, then came down again last time. My onc was unconcerned. Di

Thank you for sharing Di. It’s good to read there was a drop in your CA125. I hope you are feeling well and continue to! Blessings!

Hi ElayneZ, We are in a similar position. I was diagnosed mid-2017, Stage 3C and my ca125 was 2690. Surgery, followed by 18 weeks, every week, dose dense chemotherapy. My CA125 dropped with each treatment and I ended chemo with a CA125 of 38. It dropped each visit thereafter - to 28, to 19, etc. until I landed at 10. I was there only once and since then it is climbing up 10..14..17..20..21..28 (visit in February). I was sent for a scan at CA21 as my oncologist told me the standard was - either a doubling of the nadir (lowest number) or three consecutive rises over a six month period. I met those standards. Was scanned and nothing showed up. My CA125 rose again thereafter. The Dr. tells me I am in the process of recurring...she does not yet see it on the scan, though I will go for both the CT and PET in May...but the numbers are telling. I have small pains sporadically in my abdomen and low back pain that is not attributable to anything else (similar to the symptoms I had pre-diagnosis).

With just the one increase in your CA125, I would not be alarmed, though I would be watchful. I've heard it said that a rise can be caused by things other than cancer though I never understood how as it is a cancer-antigen measure (how can a non-cancerous event raise your level of cancer antigen? In my next life, I'm going to med school!!!) and many women here have seen a rise and a subsequent fall. I am sure you will receive more helpful information from the ladies here.

Like you my next visit is in May. I will keep you in my thoughts and hope that you have a negative scan and a positive meeting with your Doc. Best wishes.

Hi - thank you! We really do seem to have similar. My last result more than doubled - Jan was 6.3; and then March was 17.7. All other results had been under 7 for the past 18 months so that has me quite concerned. I have had low back pain for years and have been seeing both chiropractor and an acupuncturist the past 6 months for periformis and sciatic pain too. I have read inflammation can increase the CA125 but the doubling is concerning. My onc nurse called and said to do the CA125 in a month - and the CT in May as scheduled. In the meantime I hope to stay positive and healthy. I truly hope that for each of us!! Thank you again for sharing your journey! (And good luck with med school in your next life! 😉) Blessings!!
