CBD oil and other alternative treatmentsfor polymyalgia (PMR)?

My wife (age 58) has been diagnosed w/ PMR. She is down to 15mg of prednisone, but her symptoms are already getting worse. She is on Dapsone (antibiotic), Prednisone, Gabapentin, calcium and vitamin D suppliments, and Advil (which she says does nothing). It is really hard to watch her condition deteriorate so rapidly, and we have concerns for the long term consequences of taking all of these medications. We would welcome suggestions for alternatives from people who share our concerns. Thank you.

Perhaps you need to leave a message for the rheumatologist regarding your wife’s worsening symptoms.

Hi shedmaker. I don't know if you are aware but there is a community for PMR on Healthunlocked. If you to up to the Search Healthunlocked box top right and type in PMR and then at the next screen click on Communities, it will come up on the left hand side. If you click on it, a Join button should appear - click on that. There will be a lot more info on PMR there I would think. Of course, if you prefer to stay here, that's absolute fine. Good luck.

Hiya shedmaker, welcome. I'm sorry to hear of you wife's diagnosis. It's probably been explained to you by the prescriber that corticosteroids are the main med used in treating PMR. Quite why her dose is being reduced I don't understand but maybe you’re not in the UK & have different guidelines? Anyway, I have RD (Rheumatoid Disease/Arthritis) so not au fait with all things PMR, this is the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society's site, there is a dedicated PMR site on Healthunlocked so perhaps better to ask over on their site healthunlocked.com/pmrgcauk It's another UK based site but I’m sure they'll welcome you there also. I hope your wife can get some control, maybe like RD it can take a little while, not easy to watch someone you love in pain, so take care the both of you.

Thank you for your kind words. Yes, another person here directed me to the PMR site.
