Smelly salazopyrin? ?

Hi- I have just picked up my prescription of sulfasalazine and it has come in a different plastic canister and it is called salazopyrin.

It is en coated as before but it stinks! It's a horrible synthetic smell.....not sure I want to be taking them as they have never smelt before. 😔

What does it smell of? I'm new to sulfasalazine and I commented last week that I like the smell of it. It reminds me of some kind of cough lozenge - Fisherman's Friend or Victory Vs!

It isn't a nice smell....it's plasticy 😫

Oh, dear. Doesn't sound very nice. Perhaps someone else who takes the Salazopyrin brand can advise you better!

I've been taking these for two years now, I've just give them a sniff and they do stink of plastic or something!! Odd really as I've never noticed until I read this, I've opened another couple of containers and they are all the same as well so reckon that's just how they are.

I always carry a couple of packs of tic tacs with me as I notice that sulfasalazine can make your breath smelly.

Ooh...hadn't noticed that! Having said that, I usually eat a snack with them (take 2 twice a day ) as I feel a bit nauseous. So a piece of fruit or a mint if I'm out and about.

lol Moomin8, I never noticed my bad breath either. BUT my husband, kids, friends and even my dog did lol

Are you sure it's the pills not the plastic pot they're in? I've taken several different brands of this drug, including Salazopyrin, and they've all seemed the same to me....

That was my thought, so I've opened the pills and left the lid off.

Hi,

l had this brand and yes they stank!!!

I just stopped sniffing them whenever I opened the container. I thought they smelt very chemically if that makes sense.

Just noticed this post Moomin. I've been on Salazopyrin 5 years, recently MTX too along with it. The Salazopyrin does smell, always has done for me. I'd liken it to ammonia or something! Very strange but it works for me so I ignore it. Maybe it's the coating?

Thanks Ally- the jury is out atm as to whether it works for me....early days I suppose.
