salazopyrin shortage

Have just had a message from my pharmacy to say they are unable to get hold of any more Salazopyrin due to shortages !!

Anybody else in this situation and is there a replacement drug ? 😒

I've not had a problem with supply (yet) but there is a sulfasalazine pill that comes without the enteric coating that Salazopyrin has (I can't remember the trade name as it was some years ago that I took it). So if you think your stomach could cope without the coating then it would I would think be worth asking.

There is also a generic sulphasalazine that is enteric coated. I have been dispensed that in several occasions when salazopyrin has been in short supply

Mine are called "Sulphasalazine Gastro-Resistant Tablets" by Genesis if that's any help.

I had a problem with supply after keep going back to my localchemist .I had to ring around chemists in my area and ask if they had any then get another prescription from my gp to get it

I've had problems getting Salazopyrin due to manufacturing problems but my chemist has had Sulfasalazine for me. They are the same just a different manufacturer. Hope you get yours sorted

great news my chemist was able to get me Sulfasalazine as well so problem solved 😊
