Salazopyrin Problems

Is anybody else having problems getting their Salazopyrin prescriptions. I've not been able to get mine for the last 5 weeks, the pharmacist reckons there is a production problem. I'm getting a bit desperate now

I had issues in the past but there was a serious shortage protocol so they gave me another brand of sulfasalazine. Then the protocol ran out.

In the end I got the GP to change my repeat prescription to sulfasalazine so I didn't have to rely on salazopyrin being available.

Can't see anything online about shortages now though.

Yes, I went to pick mine up yesterday and I was told they didn't have any and to try next week. Luckily I have quite a few extras put aside as they were over prescribing at one point. Hopefully it's fixed soon.

I also have a couple of months out aside after the shortages during covid but they won't last much longer. I emailed my support nurse yesterday for help. Thank you

I'm having no problems getting mine in Cambs area, never have fortunately.

Hope you get sorted asap. Could your consultant's hospital pharmacy help?

I emailed my support nurse yesterday as she arranged for me to collect some the hospital pharmacy the last time I had problems getting them. Thank you

Hi J355ie , I too had problems last week. I was told there is a shortage in the UK and after trying about 20 pharmacies within a 50 mile radius I called my local hospital. They had some in stock but as I had a GP prescription and not a hospital one they couldn't let me have any. As already mentioned in the thread, I too was given a new prescription for Sulfasalazine and my pharmacy was able to get that to me the next day. I am putting in prescription requests a lot earlier now so hopefully I never run out. Good luck!
