Hi everyone, I've been a heavy smoker for about 20 years. There was always a cigarette in my mouth . My doctor told me Champix was my best option. I stayed smoking for a month on the Champix but finally made the leap on April 2nd . Once I made the decision it hasn't been as bad as i thought. the Champix are truly a godsend. They take the edge off the cravings big time. I do have my moments, but I can't imagine how Id be cold turkey. This site has been a great help too, I'm so glad I came across it . :)

Thank you Stacey , im in disbelief how little cravings i had the first week.. Aside from vivid dreams nothing major, i do have occasional moments of mental anguish but thats because i think my brain and body has no idea whats going on :D

Hi there BabsB,i honestly do not know what champix is all about. And cannot comment on it.Only thing i can say if it helps is you can do it cold turkey if you put your mind into it and try to do some physical activities such long walks in a park, sport classes with other people(not smokers of course). To help the breathing.take one day at the time.

I was so out of breath at the beginning that i could cry,but slowly i am now enjoying it so much that i am set to do it every day anywhere. I now started to change my nutrition as well.In other words i am looking after myself in a better way.Good luck with all.

I have nothing but respect for those that quit cold turkey . The champix helps with lessening the cravings . This community is fantastic. :)

Your story sounds exactly like mine! Congratulations! I also read Alan Carr’s amazing book “The Easy Way to Quit Smoking”. I can’t recommend that enough! I’m now 194 days smoke free and I haven’t even touched one! Believe me... there’s moments where I could eat one, but after a few deep breaths it passes. This site has been wonderful too. Keep going!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Hi Róisín ..I'm doing well thanks, still smoke free. I've had good days and bad days ..but the bad days are definitely becoming less and less. I had to ditch the Champix as it was starting to affect my mood . Thanks for checking up on me 😊

Hi Roisín ☺ I'm doing good thanks . This last month was a very long month full of challenging days ..but I got through it. I have a holiday coming up and I'm very very nervous .

Ah yeah, I remember my first holiday and being very nervous and anxious too, but it actually turned out to be a very enjoyable one not having to dash out at the airports for a smoke after the flights, sneaking puffs out the window of hotel rooms, worrying where I could buy cigarettes and finding places to smoke. The smell of second hand was a huge turn off for me and still is if even after almost 4 years now I get the odd craving for a drag.

Its good you are nervous as you are preparing yourself for a potential trigger, embrace it and keep the mindset how far you have come to undo - watch the alcohol intake as tend to drink a lot more when not smoking especially on holiday, well, for me anyway!! :P
