Hi everyone, I've joined with website because I'm seriously panicking. i was diagnosed with asthma when i was 4 and I've smoked on and off since i was about 13-14, ridiculous I know! but I had a bad episode of flu then bronchitis and a couple of other respiratory infections caused by me not letting my body heal after the bronchitis by smoking through them. and its scared me enough to stop. I've been to a and e a few times (when i had bronchitis) and both doctors said because its not COPD, its asthma that's getting worse due to smoking, and to get COPD at my age it would be very very rare (I'm 21) and now I've cut down to 0-1 a day I'm really needing my blue inhaler a lot more and I'm wondering why that's happening? could it be COPD or has this happened to anyone else? thanks in advance

How recently has it been since you cut down? Sometimes after we quit our lungs try to clear themselves and you get more wheezy. Also some people tend to get a little depressed or anxious and that could lead to panic type episodes

hi thankyou for your reply, cut down about a week and a half ago but now officially stopped, i managed to land myself in hospital with an asthma attack and now have a preventor inhaler and its helped, got a very wheezy rattly cough though, but docs said my lungs are crystal clear

Welcome beth-1997 - when we stop smoking our body, the lungs. chest and throat begin the gradual process of repairing so I imagine if you have asthma this repair and recovery would be a lot worse - these symptoms are normal of coughing up phlegm, chest tightness, breathlessness etc...

I would suggest keeping in close contact with your doctor with the symptoms. For me, I took raw honey every morning and evening to help with the clearing out of the lungs and vaporized with vicks a couple of times a week.

Below is an old post from another asthmatic worth a read:
