Oh Karina this is encouraging. Had a day of craves yesterday. Reading your post this morning lets me see i might be experiencing same. So subtlety but gums and sugar cravings ARE less! This is major as ive gained 20 lbs and was already overweight. Id started smoking 35 years ago to lose weight! Really like my teeth too so the gum problems were a huge worry to me, but as you said i think they may be a tad better! Really needed to hear this. Another day like yesterday & i may have caved! Hate to admit that after just hitting the mark i was so looki g forward to, but wanted to be honest. Thank you so much for those words!!

in reply toExsmo

For my gums I used warm salty water this remedy takes time but at least helped me with inflammation 🙂

The sugar has always been a problem for me and after quitting it was worse ..I did gained about 15 pounds I know how you feel but we have to slowly change this ..yes we can exsmo !! 💪

In any case our priority now is to stay quit the weight and other symptoms will gradually get better

Thanks for asking Exsmo. Most days my quit is easy. For some reason I am craving today. It will pass.

Best advice i got

When first quit was that you go through a trigger and pass it and you probably won't have that one bother you again or it will be a lot less tempting. I can now say that it IS true. Protect you quit by reading all you can . Stay close here we all want each other to win this. There are tips here and also whyquit.com has videos or reading that teach alot ( but no live chat). Ive heard Alan Carr easy way to quit smoking is a good book too, but I havent read it. Would still like to. Keep up the good work✌🏼️3 days is great. Nicotine should be out of your system now and your body will be missing it, but every time you overcome will be easier. Although craves seem to last forever in truth its only 3-5minutes. If you have to watch a clock/timer and atay busy, you'll see its not as long as the lie of addiction (nicodemon) is trying to make you believe. Again well done on 3days!

Hi Exsmo,

Huge congrats to you! I know what it takes, because I have reached my 3-month milestone today! Damn I will always be 1 day behind you ;) haha

Exsmo profile image
Exsmo in reply toIndigo71

Lol "whats in a day?"...i guess a LOT. Almost messed up yesterday so beware. Theres a post called the icky 3s i just read. Have you? Talks about our 3s milestones...3days, 3wks, 3months. I don't know how to post another's on here, but its a great read for us. Have you experienced it Indigo?

Wonderful you reaching 🎉3months!!! Congratulations🎉 That IS a huge accomplishment.

Also glad to know someone at same point in our journey. 1 day behind will keep me on my toes. I dont want to lose my place teehee. I was a trackster in school...many years ago. May we win this together!

I like that: May we win this together! 😊

Yep I’ve read the pinned post about the icky 3s (and every other pinned post 😁)

We definitely didn’t pick the ‘right’ time - if ever there is one - to experience the icky-3-month-period. With xmas and New Year and all the stressors leading up to this holiday period I think we’ve made it quite difficult for ourselves 😏

Having said that, knowing my 3-month smoke free was coming up on the 2nd of January has actually helped me so much to get through this first-time-experience of being a true none smoker at this time of the year! I just wanted to get to 3-months. And I did 🤗 Yeah!

I’m sorry you got rather close on your 3th month day. It’s so scary isn’t it! Phew I’m very happy that I have not had those real nasty mind twisting cravings this time around and you can draw a ton load of strength from not giving in! Good on you 👍🏼

Keep strong ok!

Hey look at us Exsmo we’re actually doing it 🙂

Exsmo profile image
Exsmo

We ARE Indigo! You are so right on the timing. In our defense we had NO idea about the 3s thing. I honestly thought once the nicotine was out of our systems we would never crave again. Bwahahaha! Glad i kept waiting for that special day lol.

Am like you in wanting that 3month mark so much. Now i want the 4 month bc that may be the day 😏. Knowledge IS power, am just glad i didnt start my quit knowing all the pitfalls first.

Learning along the ride was a bit deflating, but i like learning so am also achieving a better dig into action or rest or whatever is needed &advised in these learnings. Who knows that we wont also become better learners as we go along.

Am not sure i said but Congrats on your 3months. I agree we did pick a pretty tough time to hit the 3momth mark. But we made it through!!! Woo hoo!

You are an extra bit of inspiration. Close quit times :)

Indigo71 profile image
Indigo711 Year Smoke Free

Ha but I did know about the icky-3s from previous attempts. Just didn’t think about timing when I stopped on 2nd Oct. I was only thinking 1 hour and later on 1 day ahead 😂

All 3 days (3th day, 3th week and 3th month smoke free) have tripped me up before, so I’ve been very guarded this stop.

I feel I’m being further tested atm, because my 20 year young daughter moved back home on Boxing Day after break up. You can guess what we used to do together especially whilst chatting ... 🤨 It keeps me on my toes though and I think that’s what I always lacked in my previous stops. Real focus to stay stopped and real solutions to temptations.

For example, I’ve relapsed quite often, because smokers have left long butts in sight on my astray. I’ve been fine with them smoking while I’ve had a coffee/drink and a chat with them. I suppose because I’ve been prepared. Come a few hours later or the next day though - whenever I happen to notice them after the smoker has left - the smokable leftover butts have immediately started playing mind games with me. So this time around I make sure there’s always a bit of water in the bottom of the astray and that the smoker pushes the butt all the way through 👍🏼

Thanks for your congrats - again hehe 😁 Here’s another congratulations for you reaching 3-months smoke free as well 😉

Yep you being 1 day in front is an extra motivation for me as well.

Watch us go onwards and upwards towards the 4 month’s smoke free mark 😊

Exsmo profile image
Exsmo in reply toIndigo71

YES to onwards and upwards!

Hey i started using water bottles for ashtrays before my quit. I didnt want to be digging butts out of ashtray. Butts are ruined that way. Might help you to not have to see em at all.

How are you doing now Indigo?

Sorry to not reply, this didnt come up in notifications...? I want to see all new posts, but especially others w our same quit times.

RoisinO1 profile image
RoisinO1Administrator3 Years Smoke Free in reply toIndigo71

Oh I so hear ya Indigo71 about the long butts in an ashtray, I had a close call when I was at my 9 month milestone and it involved a butt sitting in an ashtray, see my post below when it happened :O
