Hi. I would like to know if it is normal for blood pressure to go up after a week without smoking. I read numerous post and replies, reading that it is a normal quitting sympthom but i still can't get over it if it is true. I quitted because i know the health dangers smoking can cause, but i didn't expect that my blood pressure would go up after quitting. Hopefully someone could really convince me with facts about the truth of this concern, if my highblood pressure really is an effect of my body repairing itself, how long would this take till it lowers, and is this a call of serious concern. Need help. Thank you.

Welcome Stevester and congratulations on 1 week smoke free, that is great, well done!!

With regards the high blood pressure, are you going cold turkey or using an aid to help you which could be a side effect of the high blood pressure. It is a common complaint for your blood pressure as our body is now circulating fresh blood and the pressure may increase too due to the stress and body reaction to no longer smoking as it is extremely hard repairing and rewiring.

It would be best to seek professional medical advice on this as we would not be able to answer this. Keep us updated and close to us on your progress :)

Thank you for replying. I'm going cold turkey. I pray that it is associated with quitting. I also experience chest pain, is this also a side effect of quitting?

I too quit cold turkey over 2 years ago and in the early days (possibly the first 3 months) experienced chest tightness and high blood pressure due to the whole anxiety dealing with every day life and its struggles smoke free - these are very common feelings - have a read of the link I posted as will cover these queries and put your mind at ease BUT, if they do not ease or get worse, see your doctor immediately.

Vaporizing with vicks or Eucalyptus oil can help with the clearing out of the lungs along with taking honey (raw if possible) in the morning and night
