Asthmatic and finally packed in the cigs on the 29th June so 8 days ago . I've been the docs today as I'm really struggling to breathe normally . She was a lovely doc but said she didn't know what to suggest and asked me what I thought ππ we settled on prednisolone as I'm literally so breathless. She said chest sounded like I was giving up ???? Has anyone else struggled like this ? I'm on week 5 of champix and the following tablets for asthma .
Slo-phyllin, montelukast, seretide inhaler and venturing.
Hi Loul, am asthmatic too, symbicort combined steroid inhaler. I felt exactly the same, it does pass!! Massive thing though, you desperately need to up your water intake. It makes a whopping difference. I also took ginger and lemon green tea because it flushes your system.
It's incredibly scary, but I promise you it passes.
Well done for giving up. I'm almost 14 weeks in and breathing is massively improved and I feel loads better generally. Stick with it sweetheart.
Welcome Loul - congratulations on Day 8, I too posted my first post on Day 8 21 months ago as was pulling my hair out but never looked back - you are in the thick of the mental battle now as your body and mind is working very hard to rewire, repair and recover.
Sorry, would not have any experience on the asthma and shocked to read your doctor asked you what you thought??!! I presume the withdrawal of quitting would be much worse with asthma but below is a link to a pinned post that may be helpful if not already read. PS If the breathing issues gets worse or are not improving, maybe head to A&E and get a new opinion, also try SheenaL 's excellent suggestion on steaming or vaping with Eucalyptus. Try getting some sea air if you can too..hope things are somewhat better today for you?
Loul..It is very scary to find that quitting smoking does not suddenly give you marathon healthy lungs and in fact you are feeling worse....!
I take from myself ( also a Champix quitter) who is a very active almost 60 year old male with a family history of fatal heart attacks,,(Father, mother, brother did not make 45) ..and quit after diagnosed with COPD two years ago, also felt horrible that first few months...I like to call it the total zombification stage...
I was really down in the drain and also thought that I felt better smoking then suddenly the light came and I could feel life...!! when, how and where I can not say but it happened..New life with COPD, still not that 25 year old stud I wished to be when I quit..but alive and living life the way it should be...!!
Quitting did not make your Asthma worse...Nicotine hide the real affects and falsely made you believe it is OK to smoke with asthma...Now that you have quit you are feeling the true impact...Nasty but true...!!
I'm sorry to hear about your struggles. I have had asthma since the day I was born. I remember having to use my inhaler 4 times a day when I smoked, and hated it. I also used to wake up and had to have a cigarette because I "thought" the cig helped me to breath better. Boy was I wrong! I use Atrivant HFA inhaler. It is the best inhaler I've ever had. I have read on here that when a person first quits they get a lot of phlegm and the breathing is a bit heavier, but I didn't have that issue. I used to cough a lot when I smoked, but now I don't cough at all. I did have a funny voice at first when I quit, but it went away after a week or so. I wonder if it is the Champix making you feel that way... maybe check the side effects for that? I'm no doctor, but it is just a suggestion. Either way, I hope you feel better soon. Not being able to breath right is not cool. Make your bathroom steamy and sit in there for a little bit. I doubt you'll feel like that forever. Either way, smoke free is the best way. God Bless!
a cigarette won't make it better stick with it there more drama to come from quit smoking there was a lot of changes to your body and mind when you started and a lot more to quit a lot more good luck stay on this site they know
