Thank you Max, wow you have done really well 2012! congrats to you
Thank you Max, I will cling on to my quit like a monkey with a handful of rice
Welcome aboard Sparkle
You're doing great thus far, but sadly like Max I have no knowledge of using lozenges.
Glad you managed to get on here, it's helped me no end of times.
Thank you Malvin, I like reading the posts of people ahead of me and getting tips. It really helps when others are explaining what they are going through and knowing that im not on my own
Thanks Karen, I have a cat called Daisy although she thinks she is a dog and growls at strangers and the postman
yep I told them about it and they asked how many i was having, Im not sure so Im having to log them. Although I havent logged them yet heehee. They say im not supposed to be having more than 12 a day and that there is something in them that make the blood vessels smaller in the stomach so thats why i might be getting pains. Sounds a bit scarey!
yes I find that, I wasnt sure if it was just the minty menthol side of it though...
Well done on making it through the first 13 days. I have used lozenges before - the 1.5mg cherry niquitin minis (they stopped making them) - I didn't have any problems personally but I only had 4/5 a day at most. Have a chat with your pharmacist or cessation advisor just to check your tummy reaction just in case - always best to get physical symptoms checked over.
Afternoon Sparkle and a Big Welcome to the forum from me. How lovely to see so many people joining this wonderful forum family!
I used the lozenges too and particularly liked the cherry 1.5mg ones. I didn't know they had been discontinued. What a shame.
It does sound as though you're taking rather a lot (like Tea, I was using only around 4-5 per day as a maximum). May I make a suggestion? If you have a local NHS smoking cessation clinic or similar, pop in and have a word with them. I used a combination of patches and the lozenges to start with and then weaned myself off the lozenges later when I had ceased to need the patches. It may be that you could do with jigging your NRT/combining the lozenges with something else. There'll be a combination that works for you I am certain.
Whatever though, you're doing fantastically well! Good on you on you Lucky 13!!
thanks Skiddaw, I have just finished my group sessions with the local NHS, to be honest i think they were pretty rubbish. They mainly talked about jungle get me out of here, which i didnt watch. There was a man there that had a stroke too and he got most of the support as he had been advised by his doctor to stop smoking. As for me and another lady, we decided on our own
Im only using Lozenges, perhaps I should try a low mg patch aswell to stop me from munching on these as if they were haribo
Oh that's a shame Sparkle- my local lot were brilliant. I didn't do any group sessions- just met up with my smoking cessation nurse once per week for a one-to-one session. She was worth her weight in gold (indeed, I popped in to see her just the other day to give her a wee present & Christmas card as a thank you when I reached one year since quitting). I suppose it is the luck of the draw where you are and who you get.
Yes, I think it's worth trying patches as well as the lozenges- love the image of you munching on them like haribo, but it probably isn't very good for you longer term....
Good luck whatever you decide to do.
Welcome to the forum. Try alternating extra strong mints with lozenges so you cut down on the number you're taking.
Hi Sparkle
A belated welcome to the forum and congratulations on 13 days.
When I went into Boots to get some help choosing something, they were rubbish despite offering a stop smoking service. All they did was show me where the NRT products were and left me to choose. If you can get some help I'd definitely recommend it. Hopefully not all chemists are like my local one. Looking back I'm not sure I made the right choice - I got the 1 mg lozenges and I should have had the higher dose ones and then moved down to the lower dose. I'd tried patches & chewing gum before and didn't get on with them.
I have been taking between 4 and 6 lozenges a day. I'm now on day 73 so have been trying to cut down and I now am eating tic tacs instead of having a lozenge sometimes. I was going to try to stop the lozenges altogether but weakened and bought another packet just in case I struggle with not smoking over Christmas. What seems to be working for me is that I delay having my first lozenge later & later each day. I generally don't have one until about 4pm now.
I hope you manage to find something which works well for you. And keep with the forum. I've only made it this far with the support I get here.
Hi Sparkle and everyone else! This is my first post - my account took a wee while to approve. I thought it was never going to happen! I'm on day 20 and I'm using the patch and lozenges. I'm trying to cut down on the lozenges because I was on 12 a day and I'm worried that I'm having too much nicotine. I like the idea of alternating mints and lozenges so will give that a try.
Hi Betty, welcome to the forum & congratulations on getting to day 20.
Thank you. This constant chatting to myself can be hard work so it's good to be able to dump it all on here! Can you tell me how the smileys work, anyone?
oh hello
