I did the same thing porcupine and tried again. I'm now nearly a year smoke-free. You can do it...most people have more than one false starts to quitting. Learn from it and move on. I have utter faith in you as the people on this forum did for me all that time ago. Good luck.
Thank you Lisa. I feel like crap and i was doing so well. The first day was the worst, and i have to go through all of that again now.
I appreciate the support, but i think i need to look into more than just will power. I think i need to go to Boots tomorrow and pick something to try. I fancy the gum (I think) ... but i don't like the thought of the gum tasting of fags. Do they ?
I've tried nicotine gum, they don't taste of cigarettes but after a few chews they do taste erm "plasticy" and burn slightly. Well that's what I thought and you're only supposed to chew them a couple of times anyway and then rest the gum somewhere in your mouth for a bit and then chew them a couple of times and so on. Everytime you chew it releases a bit of nicotine you see so chewing all the time hurts your mouth after a bit. Anyway, good luck with it and ask the pharmacist for some advice. They might suggest you enrole on a no smoking group. It helped me I must say. My quit when I joined a group lasted about three months but you will probably have more luck (to be honest I wasn't as determined in that quit looking back). Good luck...stay with it and yes it is all worth it. Why I smoked for so long is beyond me now and I just don't understand it.
Hi Porcupine, Lisa is giving you good advice. Pick yourself up, dust off and start over. A baby does not get up and succeed in walking on the first try, only after many attempts.
Glad that you are trying and I have faith you will succeed. Here's rooting for you!! ppat
Look at it this way: it's better to fall off the wagon on the third day, then to fall on the thirtieth day or three hundredth day, or whatever. It happens to lots of people early on.
Just start over, and in a couple of weeks, it won't matter that you had to start over. But you WILL remember how you felt when you had to start over, if you start to be seduced into having "just one."
Hey Porcupine, dont worry about it. The main thing is you are back in the saddle, having another go. Remember this is a massive drug addiction you are battling here. Not something you cna brush off easily. Be kind to yourself and let the pressure out.
You have not let yourself down love........Lisa gave fantastic advice.
I started my quit yesterday and failed.............usually I would be beating myself up but I decided it was pointless and that picking myself up, dusting myself down and trying again was a more positive attitude.
as I said I'm in the same position as you but tomorrow is another day as they say.

Thank you very much to everyone. I had just the one cigarette last night, and i haven't smoked again since. But i started to feel that horrid tightening of my neck muscles when i become tense - so I popped over to Boots and bought their own brand Inhalator. It seems about as useful as a chocolate fireguard at the moment - but i will keep having a suck and see what happens.
Go for it Porcupine! I tried the inhalator before but it made me cough every time I used it. it might well work for you.
Have you tried patches etc?
No I havent tried the patches. I have read a lot of reports about them not sticking, or if they do stick, leaving a rash. Thats why i thought i would try the inhalator first. To be honest, it was my husbands decision. When I cracked last night he said he thought I needed some assistance to quit - so I nipped to Boots as soon as I could.
Hey Porcupine. Well done for being honest about what happened. It would be much easier tp not say anything but that is a very slippery slope back to the bottom of the mountain. Ok so you are at day one again but this time you will be much more prepared for the nicotine devil. Beat him over the head - tell him to naff off then get on with your smoke free healthy life!
Keep on keeping on as they say Porcupine, start over and see how it goes, it's all part of your quits, all experience. This is not an easy thing to do, so don't be hard on yourself, hopefully you're still with it this evening
Thank you all. Yes AngryBear - I am still a non smoker In fact, i was only just remarking to my husband how good I feel. I thought, due to my mistake last night, that i would feel terrible today - the same way I felt on day one before. But I don't. I have felt quite upbeat and i have been able to concentrate at work ... which i couldn't before.
So - I feel positive and determined, and i thank you all for your support.
