  • Hi Ya Pat, you will do it tomorrow, dont think I could cope if I knew that they were there, though my OH has walked around with bacci in his pocket and says that he couldnt do it if it wasnt there.

Look forward to hearing from you tomorrow everyone is really helpful, you can say anything here as we are all going through the same thing.

Read the posts on here you will find a lot of tips and advice and in the signatures of a lot you will find links to other sites just click on them Here are 2 I find very good to start you off whyquit.com and woofmang.com Read, read and then read some more as the more you read and learn about why you smoked and about your addiction the easier your quit will be

  • Hiya Patty

Just get yourself all geed up for tomorrow Patty. You can do it if you want it enough lass, and tell the silly old duffer you've stopped smoking now so you'll have the money instead. David

  • Hi Pattypat.... hope today goes well for you! Learn as much as you can about this crazy smokin thing.... it can make all the difference..... I stopped smoking once, had a big celebration with my little one, smoked the last one convinced it was the last and was smoking just 10 hours later..... you have to get just the right mind set.... keep thinking about why you want to quit, what great positive things you have to gain...... read and learn why you smoke and it will be easier to give it up!! Take care and I wish you all the best! :)

  • Patty I tried and tried several times. I failed all of them so except my current mission I am on and I have gotten farther then the past. Yet I will never be able to tell you it was a success as the mission will continue. It does not matter how many times you fall off. Just get back up and gear yourself up for the next fight. You learn as you fall off each time.

See if I can do it then I know anyone can. Do not depend on the gum pills patches or any other magic formula. They can help but your will is the key.

Success is getting farther then you thought you could. So your first success was saying I want to quit. Now lets get that second success going.

Congrats on taking this big step. Let me know how it goes.

  • hi pat, i hope your ok. It was my fisrt day yesterday, and i tried on thursday to give up. I ended up having half a ciggerette both thursday and friday. • Well Done

    Hi Pat,

Well done for not smoking and glad that your hubby is supporting you and not smoking around you. The 1st 3 days are the worst and hopefully you can get through them with help from the forum and reading and more reading. Knowledge is power and will make you understand your addiction and help you cope with the withdrawal. Drink water when the cravings come I don't know why but it does help and talking on here like Marg said you can PM people there is always some one to help you as we are all in the same boat. Good luck

    love

  • Hello, how you all doing?

I had a bad start to quit day, got in the car and found half a packet of the Wifes cigarettes, the temptation was too much. I smoked them by 1.30pm today and have not had one since..Not feeling too bad now really, getting cravings but coping with them.

I found something on the internet that seems to be helping me, it is a small application and it called Quit Counter, you can get it here.

    xarka.com/download/QuitCoun...

If you put your quit date and time in it tells you how long you have been quit for and pops up when you get certain land marks.

Here is the current info from mine:

Adam - Free and Healing for 7 Hours and 11 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy , by avoiding the use of 6 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me £1.20.

    Hope you are all ok.

    Adam..

  • Patty, if you want you can come and clean my house after. :D

  • hi adam

how are you doing i have just been on the link you have sent i think i have done it ,god i could not sleep a wink last night went to bingo last night with my daughter ans missed calling house so i lost £100,and when all the women crowded out at half time for as many cigs as the could smoke before you came back for the last half i know as i was with them last week, the nicotine smell that followed was unbelievable my daughter who does not smoke said that is how you smell mum even when you tried to cover it with perfume the smell was horrid she told me how proud she was and when i got home i had a text from my 7 year old granddaughter praising me you know what it felt so good,my hubby has been great [ i think he is counting the pennies] he is going out of the room and yesterday i felt awful so he sent me to bed for half a hour

anyway start of day3 by the way i have not just got up it takes time for me to come round as i am on very strong pain killers including morphine so i am in cloud nine most of the time anyway and with the lack of nicotine as well i think i am going cuckoo see you later pat

  • Hello Pat,

I am doing OK today, I am nearly 24 hours now, well will be at 2pm today. Getting plenty of cravings but I am being strong and doing what others have said to do i'e deep breaths and sips of water.

It is hard when people aroung you still smoke! I too hardly sleep last night, first night in a long time that I have not had a roll up before bed and I woke up loads of times.

Day three, way to go Pat, it's supposed to get better after three days, I hope it does for me.

All the best, let me know how you are getting on later.

    Adam..

  • Adam i have tried to download the page you have posted how do you know it has downloaded as there is no finish button do you know what i mean,

  • When you click on the link you should get the option to save or run. If you click on run it should come up with a set up wizard. You just need to click next next and then finish and it will be installed on your computer.

You should then have a new icon on your desktop for quit counter, double click it and then click on configuration at the bottom left and the smiley Me icon. This is where you enter the date you have/will quit, your name and number of cigarettes msoked per day etc.

If this doesn't work let me know.

    Adam..

  • Quit counter

    Hi Adam / Patty,

Thanks for this link to the quit counter and I have just put it on my work pc and think it is a really good tool for us to keep focused on our goal of being non smokers.

Well done Patty for getting to day 3, I'm on day 2 and I think it has been a little easier than yesterday.

Even managed to go for a couple of drinks last night with friends who smoke and managed not to break, but don't think I will be doing it in a hurry again as it was pretty tough.

Good luck and keep it going, it should get easier over the next few days hopefully! :D

  • HI Adam i think i a have done it i am going to try it soon. well done elwell i dont know if i am at a advantage or disadvantage not working as i am retired due to ill health, i think i would be asleep half of the day i have never felt so tired in my life, are you feeling like that or being dizzy, the smoking clinic has just phoned my appointment has been cancelled until the week later, i have asked if there was any meetings in my area as i am a person who needs to talk through things i always find it helps is there something wrong with me,i think it is boardem with me

  • Hi Patty,

I feel pretty good except for the cravings and getting a little snappy with people but I guess thats to be expected, I think this is all down to the Champix which is quite amazing and I don't think I would have got this far without it.

Have you got any friends or neighbours you can talk to until you get your appointment?

You can always speak to people on this forum, everyone has been really supportive so far.

Try and keep youself busy, maybe a puzzel or a book.

Make sure you are drinking lots of water that might help with the dizziness.

    Take care, elwell70. :)

  • Thanks elwell do you mind if i asked you what your name means i have been trying to think of my own ideas but i would get chucked off the forum if i was to say, one thought is you are welsh? or give me another clue, mine is plain Patricia from Manchester, just finished my tea i think this is one of the harder ones when you have finished eating and you light up, i wondered where hubby had been,How have you been Adam hope you have done well let us know be back soon pat

  • never say your a let down

u are trying and u will get there. i have stopped for 14 days and its the hardest thing i have ever done. worse then having my kids. there is always a nother day your do it good luck x:)

  • Hello All,

I am still off them, quite bad cravings all day at work but hanging in there. Been to gym after work and my breathing seems to be easier and I didn't cough my lungs up in the class like I usually do and I am only just into day two!

Elwell, how long did you take the Champix for before your quit day, I stopped on day twelve, they do really help but you still need to want it.

Pat, I know what you mean about the after eating, It was hard last night after my dinner especially seeing as the wife sneaked upstairs for a crafty one!

    Quit counter info below

Adam - Free and Healing for One Day, 5 Hours and 31 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 2 Hours, by avoiding the use of 25 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me £4.92.

    Adam..

  • I have been awake most of the night again, i am going to kill hubby when he gets home from work he snores so loud never really noticed it before i was probably snoring with him, any way i have had a shower hoovered and ready to go out with my daughters going on a shopping spree with them my only fear is my daughter driving on the motorway she is confident it is just me a back seat driver, big day on sunday it is my granddaughters holy communion and my grandsons christening, so hubby has treated me so good luck to all for today and i will be back later by for now pat

  • Still smoke free

    Morning all,

Free and Healing for Three Days, 9 Hours and 22 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 5 Hours, by avoiding the use of 68 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me £19.36.

Sorry haven't been on for a day or 2.

The good news is I am still smoke free!!:D

Had a tough day yesterday was really tired and pretty grumpy, not sure if that was due to the lack of sleep the night before or not smoking. Either way managed to get through the day.

I must say that Champix has been absolutley brilliant so fair with no side effects apart from weird dreams. Based on my experience to date I would highly recommend Champix as an option to give up smoking but you still need to want to give up.

Today I feel like I have broken the back of it so feeling really positive.

    Good luck to all. elwell70

  • Elwell, how long did you take the Champix for before your quit day, I stopped on day twelve, they do really help but you still need to want it.

    Hi Adam,

I stopped on day 7 when I went on to the higher dose of 1mg, and it seems to be really working.

    Good luck.

    Elwell70

  • day 5 i never thought i would get here feeling very proud still having problems sleeping and then being tired the next day, i was wondering if you had a cig now would you have to right back to day one and go through it all again or could you just carry on be back later pat

  • Still going

    Hi All,

Adam - Free and Healing for Three Days, 6 Hours and 54 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 5 Hours, by avoiding the use of 66 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me £13.15.

Yesterday was tough, lost of cravings but made it past day three!! Today has not been too bad, had the odd time that I have had a twinge but am confident at the moment. This is the longest I haven't smoked for 15 years!

I wouldn't even have a drag now just in case!

    Keeep going everyone.

    Adam..

  • BB you still get the cravings, it just takes the edge of it.

  • Adam you seem to be getting on great, i am a total wreck i was ok uptil last night i am going maad for a fag i have been reading all the info all day ,all what is in the cigs all the horror stories thatr rely shocked me but i just cant shake this feeling of [ i have not given in i promise] i just dont know what to do,maybe it is just a bad day it helps talking to lot as you have gone through it there is only hubby left smoking as no one else in our family has ever smoked so they dont know how it feels,i think i will try a jigsaw i will be back later to let you know how i get on pat

  • Hi Pat Ive had days like that really horride, some times it went on for a few days but when it went it was such a relief and each time it made me a bit stronger. I have fallen twice with days like that and regreted it so much, this time round I knew how much I would regret it and so glad I am still smoke free.

You will get there promise :)

  • Aw poor Pat, you really sound like you're having the crave from hell. I hope it eases for you soonxx.

  • Keep going Patty, I am feeling like I could cave in today!! Day from hell at work but it's funny, the smell of my colleagues when they have just come in from smoking is not nice. Keep strong..

    Adam..

  • HI just found a packet with 1 cig init i left it and 30 min ago i lit it as i did my daughter with my granddaughter came knocking at the door i just had a a puff and i dimped it when my daughter had gone i ran upstairs and the bloody thing had burnt out all was left was a neat trail of ash in the tray, in a way i am glad i did not smoke it but i think it was a sign not to smoke you could not have wrote it, but after the day i have had i think i needed that half of a half puff, i dont know if to tell hubby as i feel guilty, i phoned my daughter who had came and told her as she thought something was wrong she said not to worry to much just try again see you later so sorry pat

Hang in there Patty! Jigsaw puzzle is a great idea and I hope it distracted you for a while..... I know when the craves are bad it's hard to smile and celebrate.... you should.... you've done so well! Those bad days you will NEVER have to do again if you just trust this is the right thing to do and also trust that life will return back to normal soon (I had plenty of very, very bad nights, sweating, nightmares, not sleeping and I sleep like a baby again and have for a long time) In addition you will feel the freedom from an addiction that will make things better than before. It is hard to see this now as nicotine wants you back.... it's the getting over the addiction part and it sucks but going back will simply trap you back in the ole smoking cycle..... It gets easier. It actually gets ridiculously easy. So hang in there.... we're rooting for you :)

Oh I feel for you!! I know a drag seems like it will take it all away but it's not true..... I had one fail at day 10 and it made the week that followed harder, much harder I believe...... so resist. Keep reading and learning about your addiction instead of spending the time planning how to start again!!! You smoked for a long time (I assume) and you kinda have to clean up the mess now for a while.... yes it's uncomfortable and maybe hard BUT the that is the prize for your health and your freedom. Are you going to pay it?

  • many thanks for your advice i am now glad in a way i did not get to smoke it my daughter thinks it is some kind of sign not to smoke again i hope so, maybe this was my lowest day i sure hope it was because i could not stand for another one like today

  • What a total waste of space i am i gave in. i nagged my hubby for some and he told me he had 10 put away and where they was, after i had one when i knew they was there like a idiot i had anoter one, but i am not buying anymore and when they have gone that is it i feel like a fool, so i will go back to page one and turn my counter back, it so hard as no one round me understands as they dont smoke only hubby and he has been so good taking me shopping to help me and buying little extra things but tomorrow is a new day and it is a big day family christening and holy communion so wanted to be clean for that day any way i will be back soon yesterday was the worsy day of my life now i know what to expect soon you soon pat

  • you've stopped smoking now so you'll have the money instead. David

That's actually a terrific idea. I'm going to start saving my cigarrettes money. If my math is right, I can get myself a nice xbox 360 for Christmas!

  • Hi

backto fight the fag, went to our family's big day had not a cig sinced i finished the 10 pack late sat afternoon was determined no more got to the do and was offered one said no explained through the loud music that i am givig happened about twice but the next time i gave in fed up yelling over the music why i wasn't going out side had about 4 felt so guilty as my granddaughter saw me and i had done a pinky promise to them i would not[PINKY PROMISE IS LIKE A OATH] i felt so horrid got home about 5.30 and i swore i would not have one ever again and make my granddaughter cry, Monday morning i woke up after the best night sleep for a long time and felt as though if someone gave me a fag i would not smoke it cant write how i felt, and to day i went to the smoking clinic admitted to her what i had done and she said you could have got away without telling so why did you? i told her why lie i was ashamed felt let down and i don't want to feel like that again so i am back with averageness and not giving in to that drug again pat
