hi all i am new to this forum and was looking to get opinions/views on quitting.... this is probably my 6th attempt at quitting and my longest, i am on day 21 and up until today have found it relatively simple, i have a very strong mind and bags of willpower this time around and feel like i can really do it, however i woke this morning feeling like i really needed a cig :( i have been using patches and am currently using the 14mg patch, i have also just finished allen carrs easyway book and within the book he states that the easiest way to quit is cold turkey!! ....... i was wondering about peoples view on this? do you think it would be easier to completely erase the nicotine from my system once and for all, or continue with the patches? thanks guys ;)

Hi Liz, I don't know whether it's better to go CT or not. I tried it and lasted nearly 3 days then gave in and used a patch. I'm 8 weeks today and got rid of my patches yesterday.

There are quite a lot of posts on going CT and also a CT group if you look under quick links.

thanks very much for the reply una :D... i think i am going to give it a go, i figure if the cravings get a little too much i can always go back to the patches, congratulations on 8 weeks and the removal of the patch thats a fab acheivement ;) well done you

Why not :-) I found it took two days before I felt the effects. As you say you can always go back on the patches.

Hi Lizzie, I think cold turkey is probably best because you are ridding your body of nicotine quiclky (this only takes 3 days) Having said that for some that is too much too soon and the pastches and gum etc really help. It is a very personal thing but as Una said there are lots of threads on here that discuss all forms of quit methods and that should help you. Good luck!
