Diary of a quitter - Day 4

Well, day 4 is almost done and dusted. The good news - I haven't smoked.

I have read other threads when people talk about an empty feeling.

Helloooo empty feeling! I've felt generally downbeat today, and in a kind of 'What's it all about, why do we bother'? sort of mood.

Had a sh*te start to the day to be honest. What could go wrong, went wrong, and I spent most of my daylight hours running around fixing situations.

The status is definitely not quo.

I'm worried about my wife too. She has breast cancer. She goes into hospital in 2 days from now for some pretty major surgery. I'm seriously scared, even though I have every faith in her docs. I'm going to be at home, looking after our 5 yr old, and expected to be the 'strong one'

Still, these boards are about smoking, and not about folks personal problems. I won't smoke. I won't, I won't, I won't

I officially pronounce you "the strong one" - managing to quit smoking while going through what you are is amazing. Quite frankly even thinking about quitting smoking in your situation is amazing. Most people would not even think about it - and you've only gone and bl00dy done it :D

Sending you lots of "stay strong, stay quit" vibes, and sending your wife lots of "get well" vibes :) xx

Oh Hodges I'm so sorry to hear about your wife. To me these boards are just as much about that as they are about smoking, it's all related to how we are feeling.

it must be so hard for you right now and you are being amazing dealing with it all.

Of course you're scared, who wouldn't b,e but I'm guessing that your wife knows that and whilst you need to hold it together for your little one, you probably don't for your wife.

You have my admiration and i hope it all goes well for your wife.

Thanks for your kind words, but my wife is the strong one.

If you can get through this and not smoke (which I fully believe you will) then you can get through anything and not smoke. The empty feeling passes. You're over the nicotene now. That's the first big hurdle done and dusted, but it does leave you thinking 'shouldn't I be feeling better?'. You will. You will!

I hope it all goes well for your wife. Sending very positive thoughts your way. You're clearly a very strong person, as Lu said, to be doing this now.

...my wife is the strong one.

Possibly she could well be, Hodges...and my positive thoughts to her :)

But it is you that is going through another journey and writing up your experience on a daily basis is as good a way of keeping you on the straight and narrow....plus it's a damn good read for others ;)

I'm lookin' forward to reading more of your 'diary'

Thank you for your kind comments everyone.

I'm not going to smoke.

My wife (her name is Annabel by the way) is reading this over my shoulder and has told me to stop being so morbid! So here's a joke...

Little boy Johnny notices his mum is heavily pregnant and asks her about it.

"Mummy..Mummy, what's that big lump in your tummy"?

Mum says "Well, your Daddy did that, he gave me a baby"

Little Johnny gasps in shock, dashes out of the room to find Dad and yells " Dad! Dad! Did you give mum a baby?!!"

Dad proudly replies "Well son, as a matter of fact I did"!

Johnny steels himself and then yells....WELL SHE'S EATEN IT!!!!
