No cough?

I'm a bit confused. I'm on Day 5 and other than an hour of a slight cough yesterday Im not hacking up any lungs yet. Is this common? I was looking forward to hacking up loads of gunk.

I was a 30 a day smoker for 15 years.

I never got the lung clearing either and I'm over 11 months quit. Some folk get that and some don't. You may still, who knows. As far as recovery of lungs 5 days is still early but they will be appreciative of having no smoke/tar coating them.

Read around and read ahead of your quit time and you'll see that whilst there are many similarities there are also many differences to our quits.

All the best to you in your quit :)

I'm really enjoying my quit!! I had this overwhelming sense of happiness today. I know I'm done with fags. I won't be complacent but I am confident. This time last week I was counting the hours of "happiness" I had left before I quit

I did cold turkey, no NRTs and for me it was the only way. I tried patches before and when I failed I was smoking even more than before.

I've no proof of this, but I believe that not coughing up huge oodles of tarry sputum (a big hello to all those surfing while eating dinnner) so soon - i.e. days or a week - after stopping smoking means: a) your chest is going to take a much longer time to start getting back to normal after decades of abuse, or b) you were already fairly fit/active and little congestion to cough up, or c) compared to the excess mucus caused by smoking, the stuff you are actually coughing up is gunk from the lungs, but you're coughing it up in smaller quantities than what you were expectorating as a smoker, and so feel a tad disappointed.

I've quit these last 2 months and wasn't really coughing up a great deal of horror, but during weeks 1-3 it was noticeable, if relatively negligible.
