The cough?

I have been waiting for this terrible cough that everyone talks about when you quit smoking. I thought I would have a terrible cleansing episode considering the length of time I smoked, and how many I smoked. But not a peep, I am only a month free, but in my head I felt this would be a real sign that I am doing well. Daft I know, as I feel great with no smoking, despite the odd crave I think this time I have done it. I am looking forward to the new year, not worried about having to commit to giving up smoking again. This year I resolve to be nicer to myself and not poison myself anymore, unless it is with beer, ha ha.

  • Hi biddypat - congratulations on quitting, it's the best thing in the world!

Not everyone gets 'the cough'. But your lungs ARE healing, you have to stay positive about that.

Keep going, don't be discouraged, everybody's quit is different but the reasons for doing it are ALL positive.

  • Hang on .... let me have a look.......

..Nope....no cough here yet either! :)

I thought I would be coughing my toes through my nostrils by now but nothing after 2 months.

With or without the cough...you are doing well :)

    Keep it up

    Take care

  • No cough for me either. More like a constant throat clearing.

It's annoying because people keep looking at me like I've something important to say!

Well done on your quit love. You're doing superbly

What, then say "err isn't it lovely weather we're having today"

  • Maybe it's 'cos I'm coughing for all of you!! :p Clearing my throat all the time as well, but it'll go away.

Well done on quitting and doing so well. :)

  • For over a month I've been getting stuff coming up out of my lungs, and swallowing it, but no cough.

  • No sign of a cough or getting rid of anything after nearly 7 months

  • Did any of you have a cough before you stopped? This could be a reason for not getting a cough. But the body is a wonderful thing and can clean and repair itself without you even noticing it doing so.

Don't sit around waiting for a cough to happen. If you get it okay but if not then even better.

Well done on quitting guys. I'll be with you soon.

Suffering with bronchitis at the minute :( Wouldn't wish a cough on anybody.

  • Hi Mark, I never had a cough before I quit even though I smoked for 50 years. I'm not worried about it because I've read enough to know that not everyone gets it.

Well done on quitting and doing so well. :)

He, he, he Gem! Not had a cough either, but everyone's different. Wishing you all the love and luck in your quit.
