Feels Different This Time

I am 51 years old, smoked little less then a pack a day for over 30 years. I have quit hundreds of times over the years. Never stuck, tried Chantix on two occasions, another pill, patch, hypnotism and other different methods. Always went back to smoking, but I never gave up quiting.

I quit again this last Sunday, decided to try the patch again. On Tuesday afternoon I said this silly. If I am going to quit then I am just going to quit and be done with it. So I ripped off the patch. I was waiting for the earth to shake and my body to go into revulsions or something. But nothing happened.

Here I am day 4 and it just feels different than any other time I have quit. I feel like I have done it. Is it to soon to feel this way? Am I kidding myself? Is this a sure sign I will fail again? I honestly don't think so.....I get the urge to smoke still but it doesn't seem that strong, I say a quick "Hail Mary" and the urge is gone.

The road to freedom is its full of poyt holes lol

Hi Grace its because you realy have made a Conscious decision to stop and that means that you will only suffer as much as you want too

(what a crock of Sh** LOL)

But I really hope and pray that thats how it will be for you

So heres my little poem written for all us quitters by me

I’m really glad that you’ve quit

Cause in the past you’ve smoked some sh**

Smelly Hair Hands and Breath

Shorter Life but longer Death

Up the hills you’ve got no puff

Smokers cough that makes you rough

So pass each day without the weed

Cause only then will you succeed

So Bravo to all that now don’t smoke

Cause early Death is sure no Joke

i know what you mean, i bought the lozenges n the pack says start by taking 15 a day bearing in mind they take about 30mins to dissolve my calculations make that 7hrs 30mins of lozenges a day where would anyone fin the time. over the 3 days i have used about 6 lozenges because although i do get stressed n crave the occasionally cig i know that i don't need it and i feel like i can get through it. if you cn go it cold turkey its probably the best way cos then you won't have a lozenge/gum/patch addiction to get over

I agree, that was part of my decision on Tuesday to take off the patch and go cold turkey. I felt horrible on Tuesday, tired, run down, sick to my stomach. I felt it was withdraw from nicotine and wearing the patch was just pro-longing it.

I am glad I made the decision, each day I feel better and better. Did a 5 mile work out this morning, longest I have every gone and feel just great!

You are more than welcome here - it doesn't matter where you come from, you are still trying to kick the same habit and it's just as hard wherever you are;)

Keep coming back and we'll support each other - well done so far;)

Oh God, I have given up soo many times within the space of the past year and half....

Conquering the mental addiction is the key. And the idea that you can just have one, or the night off, or be an occasional smoker.

It clicked for me two months ago, after much relapsing and occasional off and on fags...My head had not really understood the concept of "quitting" meant never having a break from the patches and having one or two or a packet.... and readdicting myself!

This time i knew i would do it for real, cos i finally understood the nature of addiction.

Welcome to you and well done stopping smoking. Don't go looking for bad things to happen, if you are feeling good, rejoice and go with it. There are some really good websites in our signatures which will help you to get your head around what happens when we stop and most important, how to stay stopped. From our own experience we advocate you read as much as possible, take a look at some of the posts around 6 months and a year here you will find people who have gone that far and it lets you know, for sure, you can do it.

Look forward to hearing from you as the days go by.

Jackie
