First time trying to quit

Having a bit of a tough time. I have smoked for just about 34 years and have never tried to quit before.

I had my last smoke this morning and am about 10 hours into this. This is not easy. I feel like I am going crazy.

I am using the patch and that helps with the physical cravings I suppose, but the mental side of quitting is where I am having trouble.

Hence why I am here. I need a place where I can type and try to keep my mind busy. I hope that is okay.

Time to read some on what others have posted.

Welcome to the forum JTee. If you really want to quit you're in the right place. There is lots of information and empathy round here. You'll find links all over, and it looks as if you are reading now, so have a good look. We've all been where you are now so don't worry about it being your first time. Get to bed tonight and you'll be on your second day soon. Get your head believing you're a non smoker first. David

Welcome and good job so far..... making the decision is such a huge step already! The next few days won't be fun but just keep going forward and don't look back...... Freedom is waiting for you if you just keep going. Stay positive, read a lot, post, etc..... never doubt..... the mental part is huge of course..... I used a hypnosis cd that helped me stay calm and positive and I actually still listen to it here and then when I start getting antsy.... glass of wine helps me too :) Hang in there! It gets easier :)

Welcome JTee. You are in the right place to get help from people who have been where you are and some that are in the same place as you right now. Education is the key to a successful quit and to staying quit. Read as much as you can. Just remember you are chooseing to quit smoking. You are not giving up anything, but have much to gain, health, wealth, and freedom! It's really much easier than you have heard to quit. No pain, just the nicodemons messing with you head. Remember, you are stronger than they are. Not one more puff. Choose not to smoke. Keep going strong!

Well I just got up and will not be officially on day two for and 2 hours. Sitting down with a cup of coffee and fantasizing of having a smoke. Not gonna do it.

Tad bit of a restless night but I know that will pass.
