Had a fag: I stopped for 6 days but went out... - No Smoking Day
Had a fag
Sorry to hear your news. Drinking is a problem for me too, staying away from it for a while is a really good idea.
You have not let anybody down, because you are now a non smoker and that is all you have to be, a non smoker today, you are choosing not to smoke today.
Doing some more reading to help get your head in the right place, you can do this, there are plenty of people around here who thought they never could and then they find themselves in the Penthouse, one day at a time and not one puff ever and you will get there too.
Keep strong, post often, and I am sending you some PMA but it may take awhile to get to you as I am still snowed in.
Thanks bev.
Hi Deano
Sorry you had that blip but I agree with bev here stay away from the booze for a while
Love
Marg
i know it was a silly mistake.I will keep off it for a couple of weeks.
Hi there
Don't worry about letting others down, this quit is for you and you can apply enough pressure on yourself without feeling it form others too
Honestly, this place has a lot of people who don't manage their first ever quit and keep it going, so your not alone in that.
Drink has been many a reason for a blip and a mistake only remains a mistake if you don't learn from it and you have Your plans to keep a couple of weeks booze free sound good.
All the best to you, it's hard but worth sticking with as you are already proving

Sorry to hear you had a blip Deano but well done for putting a patch back on and re starting, forget your blip and move onwards......
I must admit last weekend was my first smoke free weekend and I had to stay away from the pub and drinking purely because I would have been very tempted too. I was difficult but I did it.
Stay strong and keep going.

hey deano,
sorry to hear you smoked. your doing the right thing though, getting straight back on the horse. well done mate.
yeah booze is a killer for weakening the resolve and scientifically Alchohol lowers the nicotine level in your blood so cravings for it are stronger (why you always smoke more when your drinking).
best of luck for getting back on where you left off
Thanks guys.
Deano,
Don't treat this so much as a fail, but more of a lesson you needed to learn as part of your quitting process.
Quitting smoking is an ongoing process for many, its like a fine sculpture, and every day you chip a little bit more off it to perfect that creation. For you? this time, you chipped away at that granite stone 8 times and unfortunately you've learned that drinking can affect how you chip away at this block and you knocked the nose off it... ahh well.. :/
Ok so 8 days you made it in.. don't take it as a fail , just know what you have as a trigger and if you must go out for a drink.. don't drink 3-4 pints, moderate.. go out for a couple and leave it at that.. the end result is you still went out with your mates and you didn't sit in like the immortal recluse.
You don't have to live like a monk to quit, just moderate what you enjoy that may be a trigger if you partake in too much of it. drink is a big trigger but no reason to cut it altogether unless you truly have to to be free from smoking.

Hey Deano, get that chin up, how many 1,000's of people have tried to stop smoking and got so far and had a fag. It could be me it could be anybody on this forum and if you didn't care you would not be on here telling us.
You have not let anybody down this is one of the hardest things to do. That nicodemon saw you'd had a few pints and thought okay now I can get him. If you read on these forums you will find many on here that the same thing has happened to them.
The fact you have put the patch back on means you want to try again it means you want to stop smoking. It does not matter how many time you try you will succeed in the end and that's what's important.
Compare my pupils they take a driving test and fail what do I get them to do, try again and again until they pass.
I told you before I'm here for you, we're all here for you just talk to us. You have shown tremendous courage to come on here and tell us that you have smoked and you're admired for that. The fact that you stopped for six days shows a real desire to stop.
All the best
Jack
