I had to share this with you guys. I finally found some time to do some reading on whyquit.com and its just completely changed how i feel about smoking, so much that i have now gone cold turkey because i know nothing can stop me this time.

It was this article that did it for me. Truelly heartbreaking and real eye opener. The pain this woman has to endure on a daily basis i can only imagine.

If this doesn't open your eyes nothing will. I am now definitely a non smoker!

I have now been smoke free for 4 Days, 17 hours, 24 minutes and 41 seconds (4 days). I have saved £13.25 by not smoking 56 cigarettes. Life saved 4 hours and 40 minutes . Quit Date: 29/06/2008 16:30

I have had one slip up and it is now my last! Bring it on!

I have to be honest Princess - I have never looked at whyquit - or any of the similar sites.

(God I hope Johntkd isn't reading this....)

The reason being is that stories like that freak me out and would leave me with a lingering worry....

Coward I know....

I'm glad it's working for you though - you sound really positive and determind.

Well Done on getting to day 5.... Day 6 here you come!!:)

The scariest bit of the article for me what the fact that despite being diagnosed with emphysema and lung cancer that spread to her spine, she still relapsed with her quit.

It’s all a bit depressing sometimes isn’t it…?

It’s good to see you’re back on the wagon Princess, stay strong.

:)

I know , im sure we have all gone through that stage at one point or another, where you justify the act of smoking.

She is a fighter though.. really rate her.

I have just read some of this article and skipped through bits as I am not sure I could cope with all of it. I have always maintained that if I was told I had a terminating illness I would go back to smoking. Now I'm not so sure. It has really made me think about that decision again.:(

Good luck PrincessM I am sure going by your positive attitude that you will succeed in your quit.:)

Hi Princess

There is some really moving but scary stuff on whyquit. Don't read the personal stories all at once or even read it too much or you may become desensitised to the effects they have.

I would recommend that you save these stories for if you have any real bad moments when you think you might have a ciggie and read it then. Hopefully reading at that type of moment will help reinforce your quit.

The rest of whyquit, particularly Joel's Library is fantastic for general quit advice.

The only other thing i would say is, now that you have started down the CT path, stick with it. If you do get an urge, remember it will be gone in a few moments. After 3 /4 days the nicotine will have left your system and any urge is purely psychological NOT physical so NRT isn't really going to take that type of urge away and indeed will probably start you back down the road to nicotine addiction. The following article from whyquit expalins it better than i can.

whyquit.com/joel/Joel_03_08...

I am sure G.O.B. had your best intentions at heart and i am not going to knock NRT as a quit aid. I just dont think it is a good move to start down that road now that you are over the nicotine addiction part of your quit. :)

And after all she is is right when she says that quitting, whatever way we can, is the final aim for us all. :)

oh Im defintely done with the NRT, my own personal experience with NRT wasn't the greatest. Although it helped, the patches made my arms ache and left rings on my arms after taking the patches off.

Its cold Turkey all the way from here.

As for reading, i know, i am already becoming aware reading too much can be dangerous too. Its all good though. For the first time i am not counting my quit days. Not intentional , i completely forget to look at my quit meter, which is why i was pleasently surprised when i found i had done a week at the blink of an eye.

thanks TkDJohn, every little bit of advise helps and goes a long way :D

I have now been smoke free for 1 Week, 2 Days, 21 hours, 25 minutes and 48 seconds (9 days). I have saved £27.76 by not smoking 118 cigarettes. Life saved 9 hours and 50 minutes . Quit Date: 29/06/2008 16:30

I have had 1 slip up and now see things in a different light! Bring it on!

Came off the patches and went cold turkey on 04/07/08
