Stopping has been bad for my health

This is my 6th week without a cigarette after smoking for over 30 years. A lot of people have commented on how good it will be for my health but right now I have permanent stomach and head aches and cannot remember ever feeling so low before. Up until now I have been telling myself the way I am feeling is caused by stopping smoking but now I am starting to worry about it. Probably pretty common but I have not spoken to many people who have stopped and I would appreciate some reassurance.

Hi MacD - I know what you mean. I have had one thing after another since I quit but I am determined I am not going to go back to smoking that weed. How are you quitting?

As the stomach and head aches are continuous I would go to your doctors and let them know especially as you are worried about it. They will put your mind at rest whatever the reason.

Good luck with your quit.

Thanks Jan,

I am using patches and am halfway through the middle strength script. I am going to see my GP tomorrow and will see what he says.

hi Mac, welcome to the forum...

sorry to hear you are struggling a bit - i do know how you feel - i smoked for forty years and somehow expected there to be a miraculous improvement in the way I felt as soon as i stopped. Sadly there wasn't and I have had endless minor ailments since I stopped smoking (which i didn't have before:confused:) which is incredibly frustrating. It would be very easy to use this as an excuse to quit the quit.

I'm sure you're doctor will assure you the benefits are all going on inside if not on the outside!!;)

I hope you get your headaches and tummy sorted!! You have my deepest sympathy on both as I have IBS and headaches which make me want to amputate my head:eek:

Good luck, stick with it, stick with us, there's always someone who is?has same problems!!

nicky

Doctor was very good and understanding. I have a blood test organised to check out the physical symptoms first and if they are all clear (which I am sure they will be) he will talk about my mood. I am sure I am being a drama queen but feel better now that I have talked about it. My kids are on holiday with their grandparents right now which is maybe a good thing but I have been left with too much time to think which is not.

Thanks for the replies.

Hello MacD

I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid when I gave up smoking and after researching this complaint I have found out that a lot of people with this complaint were diagnosed after giving up.

I experienced many symptoms including the ones you are.

Maybe worth mentioning to your doctor whilst getting your blood test results,as I was feeling crap for months before finding out what it was.

You probably havn' t got this complaint, but its better to cross it off the list

Good luck

Thanks Tom

Something is definitely under active or over active and I will mention it to the doc after I get my blood test results.
