one dose of mirtazapine 1.25mg (title corrected)

my experience with axit mirtazapine.i asked dr for help with sleep, and some unrest / lacking peace.

after some chat he said mirtazapine, an ssri snri drug, non addictive, start half a tablet 7.5mg,

i said what about a quarter of a tablet,

he said sure,

as i'm very responsive (sensitive) to anything.

i read a bit about it, that it's a tetracyclic a.dep,

i didn't know what that meant but in hindsight it sounds like there's a lot going on there. not to mention it's two actions combined.

was going to go for one-eighth of a tablet,

instead cut the tablet into TWELVE pie wedges, like a clock,

that's 1.25mg.

i happily had the ONE-TWELFTH of a tablet,

it was a brilliant solid restful sleep.

i woke with 1% of a headache, but was ok with that.

got up, getting ok, motivated,

then noticed i was feeling dopey -

this lasted all day,

and for the next 36 hours,

with slight improvement gradually,

had chest pain for a few minutes and took some aspirin.

began to realise this is a high powered drug,

the half life is 20-40 hours! so in the system for over a week.

then that night i had 0.1mg - that's about 1 cubic millimetre.

fell asleep well but only for a couple of hours.

had a weird dream but at least it was fun.

while dozy in the early morning, i heard short ringtones, 3 times altogether, a withdrawal effect i had 15 years ago coming off 3 months (+ 1 month taper) of paxil.

wished i'd had, like 0.3mg instead of the initial 1.25mg ...

and i'm so glad that i hadn't taken any larger amount!

nearly 4 days later i'm still at the effect of the tablet,

a little dopey,

bit of loose bowels, not able to think fully clearly,

i am a little calmer, good appetite, that's sort of good,

but, not much sleep, again.

overnight it made me not care, in an unfeeling way,

i was disinterested, somewhat foggy.

improved each day but this is a serious drug, take care.

I think you mean 15 mgs as that is the lowest dose. I used to cut them in half which was enough to send me to sleep. After several years though I now need a whole one.

I can't see doing less than half having much effect on you.

And no they aren't strong powerful drugs but just one of a bunch of SRI's.

just wanted to relay my experience as a person sensitive to drugs, in case it helps anyone. i do mean 1.25mg, one twelfth of a 15mg tablet !

Did your GP not tell you that you may feel absolutely awful for the first two weeks or so...this is normal & maybe you wouldn't have felt so alarmed.I started 15mg initially & now sleep like a lamb with no side effects on 3.75mg .I would need to crush the tablet in order to take a smaller dose & even taking 3.75mg it's only approximate as impossible to cut it accurately. Sometimes it's just dust I take!!Hoping you are now on a stable dose & sleeping well.

When I first took the drug I felt odd but my doctor monitored me for the first set of weeks and he started me on a low dosage and slowly increased them up...I'm 45mg tablets I take one a night...their the only thing that settles me at now from this type if drug family but I do find they lower your sex drive...
