Hi all, hoping for some personal insite, I've started taking Lamotrigine and was on 25mg for 3 weeks, light headaches & a couple sleep issues but was okay. However since upping to 50mg on Monday (5 nights ago) I've been struggling nightly with prickly skin that feels like I'm being constantly bitten by midges, being hot and restless and aching joints and muscles, it's starts 1/2 hrs into dose and runs half the night before easing into exhaustion. Dose anyone recognise this and if so will it pass as I think it's helping and will persevere if these side effects are temporary

Lamotrigine side effects?
Welcome to the site
Your Doctor has increased your dose, this is standard practice.
Allow a further four weeks for the increase to work, be patient.
Regards insects, never heard that on however sometimes depending on other medications you may feel creeping flesh ?? I have a B12 injection every twelve weeks and suffer creeping sensations under my skin. I keep looking for insects on my skin and there is nothing there. You can purchase a wrist thing that contains a substance that insects avoid, you can also purchase sprays.. Sorry that is all I can suggest

Thanks Bob, I guess the biting sensation is just my way of describing hives! It's that plus the awful joint and muscle pain combined with the sleep disruption! Only feels bearable if I know it's going to pass.
You mention joint and muscle pain, have you discussed those with your Doctor. If not you need to have words with your Doctor to approach these concerns.

Hi I used to be on lamotrigine and yes I had this creeping skin feeling drove me nuts from what I can remember it is short term but I was put onto topimax not long after being put on to lamotrigine so can't be 100% I also found that if I got too hot i sometimes got this feeling but I was taken off lamotrigine 6 years ago by my doctor as I always felt it wasn't the one doing the best job out of the combination I was on. Hope it works out for you
Good luck
Hi there, can’t help with your specific meds I’m afraid but just wanted to share that three weeks into an upped dose on my medication I’m starting to feel better after weeks of crappy side effects and no improvements.
I’d speak to your doctor but there is light at the end of the tunnel with side effects generally x
