I'm lost

I have pushed all my friends away, I have a negative outlook on most things at the moment and am negative towards my partner and friends that have tried to stick around. I have a son and I really don't want this to to be picked up on by him.

I have been on Sertraline but it doesn't seem to help. Just looking for some advise if anyone can please?

It is important you give your medication time to work, upwards of six weeks .

Have you work out the reasons for you isolation ?

To understand the reasons may be help you move on.

Believe me at seventy two nearly I now prefer my own Council and I now am quite happy to be left alone, my wife accepts that and is happy I have my own interests, sad to say I have a library and going blind, so we make changes with electronic reading pens. There is always way to make yourself more comfortable after you can work out the problems you have

Have you been offered Counclling a CPN

Hi and thank you for your post 👍As per last post, medication can take 4-6 weeks to start working. You need to check back in with your prescriber to either increase the dose or switch to a different drug. Our bodies have different chemistries so there is no one drug that suits everyone. The second item to look at is the negativity you pointed to in your life. This can be overcome too. Therapy or counselling can do the trick, especially if combined with medication.

Alternatively you might like to use online help from the many reputable mental health organisations or read some help books dealing with depression.

There is no right or wrong way to proceed. The undisputed fact is that it is so important that you are doing something about your brain that is misfiring at the moment.

Wishing you all the best 🦘

This is my third try of drugs! Still feel negative even with counselling!no pleasing some people!

It is always important you give medications that chance to work, if we change regular to other medications we can really get through the list of drugs that would help you

Hi Mr Lee543My own experience is that Sertraline may not work for you as it didn’t for me. I have tried 5 or 6 anti-depressant drug options over a two to three year period. None improved my mood.

Best if all is to do some physical exercise. Anything. Outdoor is best. Walking. Every day. Say 25 miles per week. Get a free app like Strava or Pedometer and track your progress. You may not feel like doing it but just go out anyway. Good luck. MGD

SSRI antidepressants promote serotonin in the brain but not everyone needs serotonin - you may need the opposite which is dopamine - does coffee give you a boost ? I know how you feel about pushing people away

Please keep posting MrLee543

I have the same sense of isolation, I work from home, am divorced, lost my house and family to a gambling addict business partner that stole £500,000 off of me. Now I am back at my parents house, £300,000 of which was their money. I go to sleep hoping not to wake up but I continue the fight daily not to give in, chronically suicidal but just havent got the balls to go through with it, thought I have been very close on several occassions, I just wonder when this misery will end.

Mr Lee all I can say is if you've given this med a long chance ie. 3 to 4 months and upped the dose if you can bear the side effects and it still hasn't helped you in any way you can see, even small changes, then you have given it your best. You have done really well here! You are trying really hard and this is great testament to your strength of character. Please keep remembering that, every second of the day if you need to.

I have spent a long time doing the wrong thing, which is trying meds for too short a time. I too am in a similar situation, I have unintentionally pushed friends and family away as I haven't felt able to see people because of the state I'm in. I do however see one friend twice a week for a small walk and they have seen me regardless of how bad I've felt. They have kept me going and trying. I tried escitalopram for 5 months and that didn't help and now I am trying sertraline for longer. It doesn't seem to help yet but I'm trying to persevere. All I am saying is try and reach out to someone to keep you going....just one person and be brave enough to tell them the truth. It helps. I have also joined a support group - they are called Unmasked and have groups that meet once a week in the UK - I don't know where you live. There is also Andy's Man club around the UK if you are male. I go every week and as soon as I got there I knew I had met my tribe. They understood - they have all been in my situation, struggled with finding the right med and eventually felt better and got on the road to recovery. I can talk freely and they have great suggestions and offer wonderful encouragement and support to keep me going. It is hard for people who aren't well to understand.....those people tell me to 'do things', which I can't yet do and can't seem to understand that I am pushing myself to the limit each day as it is. Don't hide it from your family, telling the truth is better.

Reach out to your doctor or psych and tell them how you feel honestly. They will try to help you. It's small steps and congratulate yourself on these small steps. Keep going, you will get there.

Please let me know how you get on. I'm interested and care. Don't give up. You are trying and there is a lot of hope, even if you don't feel it. Keep going. You are doing well as you are trying to find solutions and windows. We all care ❤ xxx
